Anyone else thing the longer the quiet goes, the more likely the outcome is going to be bad to marginal?

I know we State fans tend to forget there's a bowl season, but nearly every good candidate is getting ready for a bowl game right now. It could be a while, and it doesn't necessarily mean we're being turned down.

Every other coach search I've followed has had something come out along the way. Maybe Neinas(sp) is as stealthy as advertised.

Byrne is known not to say a whole lot. This is about what I expected from him.

there's only so many that can be posted before most realize it's a waste of time at this point.

With bowl season coming up no HC is going to want to distract his team with a rumors, and Byrne hired someone to do the ground work (must give him time) quietly. I think it'll be like this for a while and if someone is announced soon, it will be a Coordinator, not a HC. The longer this goes on means one of two things- either a slam dunk, or a total disaster. Meanwhile, I'm just glad it's some of the fans and not the administration making idiots out of themselves with this search. Some of these posted rumors make me shake my head...

Just remember if you shake more then three times you are playing with yourself.

....for coaches ditching their bowls for new jobs. None this year that I can think of. But its happened a lot in the past.

is the longer the search goes on the farther down on the list of prospective coaches MSU is going. Look at UM when they hired Orgeron as opposed to the hire of Nutt. With the hire of Nutt coming almost immediately, in fact Nutt was locked up for sometime prior to the announcement of his hire

...they can stay for it (bonuses). But I would insist that they publically announce that they are leaving for MSU after the bowl game. We MUST require that for recruiting reasons. Make it so.

They do things totally different. I can't see Greg doing something like the 2004 Ole Miss coaching search.

"Maybe Neinas(sp) is as stealthy as advertised."

You think? Again, common sense please. This firm is very well thought of. They are hired to be the middle man. Doesn't it make sense, then, that they are secretive and don't make their client look foolish and desperate seeing that they have a good reputation? I know we are not used to having a competent person in the AD's chair, but people need to get a grip on the fact that Byrne has his stuff together. He isn't running his coaching searches like Pete Boone or Mal Moore.

Alabama took several weeks to announce the hiring of Saban after several other coaches had openly turned them away.

I think we have our guy. Remember during the baseball coaching search, Casey and the other names who were rumored came out and said they weren't interested, and then later we found out the Cohen had already been given the job? So obviously it was easy for them to say that they were going to stay put.
Well, today Kelly and Peterson said they are staying put. Not a peep from Patterson from TCU. I think he's our guy, and the details are just being worked out. No inside info, just a hunch and some critical thinking.

into as UM was due to the fact several coaches turned them down. Hopefully that won't happen and if you are willing to spend the money it generally does not happen. I think that we will have a coach by the weekend if we are willing to spend the money that has been talked about. May not be announced but we will have him in fact we may have him right now.

Generally speaking, yes. But with Byrne hiring Neinas to keep things quiet while doing the legwork, I think this allows Byrne and any candidate he chooses to be discreet and finish the season without all the distractions. I hope keeping the distractions to a minimum invites more coaching candidates to listen. I also hope it means the search doesn't turn into a circus like most searches do.

I get that feeling too. Of course the football program has trained me to expect the worst.

One difference is that if we strike out with all of our A list, we could hire Bowden. OM had a chance to hire Neihisel(sp) and decieded on Orgeron. I think Byrne would rather hire Bowden than hire a DL coach.
