OK, OK....maybe IT'S not. But I am curious what everyone thinks about the mysterious email posted on another website claiming Deadspin is going to roast the Bears on February 21. Anyone buying that? Holding out hope but skeptical? 100% convinced it's catfishing? My only thought is this - if it's fake, it hits on some of the oft-rumored methods by which the Bears do some of their business. I guess if all of those really are just rumors, then it's smart to send people down those trails. If they are not, why would anyone expose those if not for an expose like the one the email refers to? I also haven't taken the time to try to figure out if it's another LOL AT COACH34 type situation, which I must say was very well done. Either way, it provides some entertainment in an otherwise dreary February.

It's fake, and someone really has a lot of time on their hands to come up with something like that.

I might buy it if you told me it was Charles Robinson and Yahoo, or Jeremy Fowler from CBS who reported Chris Jones was interviewed, but Deadspin? NCAA violations aren't their strong suit.

Not buying it for one second. It's a total catfish job.

Let's just say the letter is somewhat true. To "expose" this takes more than scouring social media sites for pictures of kids with cash, white women, and new trucks. And to be honest with you, that's probably all the capabilities they have. It would literally take 10s of 1000s of dollars to run a private investigation thorough enough to even warrant minimal attention.

I can see the Deadspin headline now..."Mississippi State Proves to be the Most Gullible Fanbase in the Country".

It's ******** until proved otherwise. If they really had a scoop, they'd go with it. Not put the word out they're going to sit on it for a week and give some other site the chance to scoop them.

It's a fake. It's funny that the guy keeps emailing the Maroon and White Nations guys (Croom Diaries) after the initial email. The core of the troll is that he wants access to post his own editorials on his time. Some lunatic with too much time just wants to get in their system and mess stuff up.

For the life of me I don't understand why the Coach 34 thing happened, and why this would happen. Why would someone in your own fan base want to continue to draw even more attention to a group of people on their team who are already perceived as being illegally recruited? For fun? I can bet the ole miss Bracky patrol would like to get their hands on these yucksters. And my apologies for the offensive label used to describe the ole miss compliance department.

It seems like that would be an easy enough reason to flush out. Tell the guy you can't have editorial powers, but I will post whatever rebuttal you want me to as long as your name is attached and it doesn't harm MSU. No editing to your writing will be done otherwise. Having access to the website is non-negotiable and stupid to even ask for off the top. If he doesn't like that, then go to your Bama website backup plan.

If getting access to M&W was the goal, it was done poorly. You have to establish the relationship first. Publish a few articles on the site, build up some trust, then ask for access to the site. Don't just jump in with both feet right off the top.

First, the whole thing is BS.

Second, I'm curious about the "they forgot to make me sign a confidentiality agreement" bit. Wouldn't a client be entitled to confidentiality from his attorney regardless of an agreement? That doesn't smell right. One of you lawyer types help me out.

Third, the whole thing is BS.

Or just start your own blog. There is a free template in Wordpress and Blogspot. Give whichever blogs you were interested in as a platform permission to republish your post. Too many simple solutions for this to be real.

He could always go to FWTCT, set up an SBNation account and start making FanPosts there and at EDSBS/RCR/Etc. to his heart's content. Cast that net wide. No "editorial access" needed.
As mentioned before, this sort of thing is really more in line with other sites than Deadspin (but they did break the Teo 'girlfriend' and Favre texting stories open.)

The biggest point is -- they are trying to publicly humiliate anyone in the MSU online community with a voice that is used to, in any way, hurt Ole Miss. Ever since Croom Diaries published the "Kiffin tweets" which went semi-viral and got by far the most hits in the history of M&WN, he's had a bullseye on his back. They will continue to go after he, Steve, etc...until they feel like they "got" them on something that kills credibility.

Yeah, but those stories were basically nothing but piecing together media accounts. Or am I remembering that incorrectly.

I don't think Deadspin is into investigative journalism, Charles Robinson at Yahoo, I don't believe they have the cash to do that nor the interest to do it at that level.

Whatever Ole Miss fan wasted the time putting that together is a pathetic human. No seriously, that is 17'ing sad that someone spent that amount of time on that.

Guy emailed MSU blog claiming he worked for Ole Miss and was sending info to deadspin on how much Ole Miss cheats. When you summarize it - it's really even more ridiculous.

I’ve considered various blogs/message boards, but I didn’t want all of this to monopolize a board with a lot of traffic/posts. I need a board where I have the freedom to post what and when I need to post, should it come to that,

Beautiful condescending dickery.
All it needs is a "bless your heart" to really send it into the passive-aggressive stratosphere.

Holy crap. That is a huge steaming pile of ********. UM is getting recruits and parents to sign legal contracts with liquidation damages, even though the only way to enforce the contract would be in court, which would make everything they're doing public. And they somehow "didn't know" the source only went to UM for 1 year and "forgot" to follow up on getting his confidentiality contract signed. Hilarious that someone would go to that much trouble and come up with something so implausible.

The red flag to me is why on earth if you had a story, why would you send it to Deadspin? Send it to yahoo or Espn.

The next SMU?

Even their fake, trolling ways have an inflated opinion of themselves. SMU had the highest winning percentage in the NCAA during their glory/pay days. Ole Miss has managed to play in the BBVA Compass and Music City Bowls in back to back years. They had a better two year run when the previous pastor was leading the flock.

Say what you guys want about IBN and Incarcerated Bob, but I've been following him on twitter for the past 2 years and frequently visited his site (One of his guys Randizzle went on a big time NFL hot streak this year in picks). The guy is an arrogant, know-it-all, in-your-face guy, but he spits some decent wisdom and he has correctly nailed some stories days and sometimes weeks before the stories actually broke. That being said, he has whiffed on some as well. He has been chiming this for a while now (probably shopping his scoop around) and after Deadspin broke the fake Manti Teo girlfriend story they have some legitimacy. Bob is controversial and he has bought himself probably half his twitter followers, but legitmate reporters at major companies actually do follow him on twitter. Probably the reason Yahoo, ESPN etc.. stay away from it is because the story seems to have been developed by him. I don't know if this will come of anything or just be ********, but i'm taking a wait and see approach.... could be fun for a few days.

I do believe that Bob has some scoop on them, I think what he has may even be legitimate. I will tell you one fact, When Bob started spewing this stuff about Ole Miss. An Ole Miss booster/admin whatever actually got his twitter account temporarily suspended and sent Bob an e-mail or something telling him he needs to shutup (roughly). It pissed Bob off which is why he has been so aggressive about this issue. I think Ole Miss lawyers are ready for this, I don't know where the Feb 21 date came from, but he says that deadspin is going to publish it "soon". I do not believe that Bob is lieing about having the scoop and potentially selling it to Deadspin. Who knows how much Deadspin paid for it or if they decide to publish it or not, but Bob won't reveal anything now because Deadspin does have the rights to it. We'll just wait and see...

3 different times that guy has set dates for his information to come out and each time, the information has not come out. He's an idiot. Doesn't mean I don't want something to come out but to act like he has info is **ludacris at best.

On the flip side, from maybe his point of view, he could have just brashly been pushing out his agenda to sell his story for profit (which it sounds like he has successfully done). Like I said, may or may not be legitimate and may or may not come to light, but I believe that he really does have some interesting scoop on them.

I believe you're doing some really serious wishful thinking. Almost to the point of being delusional. He got his Twitter suspended because he was tweeting ******** that was probably slander. And yeah, he's so pissed off at UM that he's continuing to sit on information that could bring them down. Sounds plausible to me. **
