I've seen enough to know how this is playing out for the Cubs.

Z will in 14 games and hit 5 homers and be a complete psycho.
Harden will be 8-3 in his 16 starts this year.
Dempster will be 8-15.
Lilly will be 10-10.

Soriano will hit 30+ homers and make at least 10 errors.
DLee will his about .270 with low teens in homers and <80 RBI.
The LSU connection up the middle will combine to OPS about 1.200.
The Jap will be on the bench by June again.
Bradley will miss at least 50 games due to injury and suspension. The Cubs will try their best to give him away at the trade deadline, but will find no takers.

Kevin Gregg will be traded. Marmol will close the second half and save the last two games of the year to clinch an 81-81 season.

WAIT TIL NEXT YEAR!!!!!!!!!!

The Cubs could very well do something like sign Pedro Martinez to kick start their team.

Plus, I imagine that the Cardinals will cool off at some point. They've had an advantageous schedule- they play the Nationals next on the road, and they've been home for most of the month. The Cardinals are also kind of young in spots- Rasmus, Perez, Motte, Boggs- who may very well take over for Wellemeyer before long if Wellemeyer keeps sucking, Barden, and Thurston is inexperienced as well. We'll have to see how Troy Glaus comes back from his shoulder injury, to.

They are playing good baseball, though. And they're playing baseball the way I like it, aggressive and hard, and the way I hope MSU is playing it in a couple of years.

surrendering for decades? Seriously, the Cards have won how many NL Champs and World Series titles since the Cubs were in their last World Series. I learned to hate the Cubs when I lived in St Louis. I don't know why, but I did.

Kahlil Green has already made 4. Thrown in Ankiel doesn't help.

Lohse has jammed his leg vs Braves so we gotta long way to go

Definitely a long way to go. I'm not encouraged by the way the Cubs have come out of the gate, but it's a long season, and though the Cards are playing well, I'm sure they'll hit a slump at some point. The thing that worries me about the Cubs is that I don't think they have the chemistry they had last year. That was a big part of why they had the NL's best record. I don't see that yet, but it's still early.

Bradley has always been able to hit, but Abreu seems like the smarter, more solid pick. Not sure if it was over money, or maybe Bobby wanted to play on the West coast...

They wanted to get more ABs for Fontenot, which was fine. Fontenot is also a lefty like Fukodome and the Cubs were right handed heavy last year (Soriano, Lee, ARam, Soto, Theriot and DeRosa). Bradley and Miles are both switch hitters. But it was just a bad decision and one they will soon regret if they don't already.

Edit to add Theriot.

48 million to a guy that has pitched one good season in Demptster.

30 Million to a guy that is old, and can't stay healthly, and is crazy.

Trade of a great young arm, for a older reliever who was good for one year, and pretty mediocre beyond that, Gregg.

I didn't mind the signings of Lee and Ramirez, and still don't mind the Ramirez signing, but the Lee contract is ridiculous.
Soriano's contract is terrible too, but at least he is playing well right now, just wait another 4 years when we are still paying him 20 million a year.

We are just a very old team. Our middle infield is below average, and we just aren't smart with the amount of money we have. Our farm system is one of the bottom 10 in baseball, and we need to start developing our own players instead of turning into the Yankees circa 2003 until present day.

We should focus more of our money on scouting and the draft. Teams that have the money are starting to throw it at kids in the draft. Would you rather pay Bradley 10 million a year, or spend 10 million on 10 draft picks that you got in rounds 10-20 that said they were going to college, and were not players worth drafting. Well put those players to the test, offer a kid that is all set to go to Vandy 1.5 million dollars even though you drafted him in the 11th round.

This team could get old fast, and on top of that they have a bloated payroll and the team still hasn't been sold.

They aren't a small market team who has to focus solely on the draft. They can make good free agent signings, make smart trades, and still do well in the draft. They don't make good decisions on anything.

But to me, the Red Sox go about it the right way. They spend money, but do it wisely. And they use the resources they have and not ignore them. (Cubs are at $118 Million, Red Sox are at $133 M - which team would you rather have?)

And it still a long way to go. Rush to Judgement

My Cards are benefitting from the schedule so far and the fact that the Cubs have suffered some injuries.

I hope the Cards can put as much distance as possible between them and the Cubs right now because the Cubs will get healthy and the Cards will have to play some tough teams AWAY from St Louis.

Frankly , The Cards bullpen scares the **** out of me and so does the high # of errors.

For the first month , everything has gone OUR way. Things have a way of evening out. This should be a good (and fun) race to follow. The Cubs are better on paper , but the Cards have jumped out front which gives them a chance.

It is VITAL for the Cards to get Carpenter back in a few weeks and him remain healthy for the rest of the year.

The errors? Well that just might be what makes or breaks My Cards.
