....can you really not manage to use the helmet Mississippi State has been using for the past two years in your banner advertisement for the Egg Bowl? Thanks for the Croomtastic reminder of how bad we used to look.

By all accounts, they've got a skeleton crew there that is just big enough to get the paper printed.

I expect soon enough, they will close up shop and Gannett will publish the paper remotely with all national content and a few free-lance local articles.

a good friend of mine (and a lot of other production staff) lost his management position there a couple of weeks back. Over 20 years of full time employment rewarded by a flat-out "see ya."

Retained staff is low-pay/low-talent. They will soon be on the street. After all, that real estate downtown that the C/L is worth more now than ever! (near the new convention center.)

Flab, you might be very right about satellite production of the C/L...that is area in which Gannett has vast experience.

You must not be keeping up with the newspaper business. Even the best papers are struggling to stay alive. They are struggling with internet and mobile content. Same as land-line telephone business. Going away as the carriage industry when cars came became popular.

While I have always thought they do slight MSU and are $*!+ biased, but they would have gone under a long time ago if that was the case.

That's what I always say when people are being laid off. "They did it to themselves." What an *******.

is center right. They also started selective reporting based on their ideology over the years. Their plight is very similar to other left leaning , ideology driven news outlets at all levels across the country. A big part of their demise was just sheer stupidity on their part.

While I do not disagree with your reasons, technology if driving all newspaper's demise. They all struggle with how do we charge and make money on internet when there is so much free news out there.... That is where your argument come more into play. Would a conservative "Pay" for a left centered ideology based news site? Then you have a valid argument. The fact that the printed newspaper is going away has more to do with technology.

And based on your attitude, you apparently have never been laid off or have had to make personnel decisions during a layoff. 99% of people laid off did not "do it to themselves". In a struggling industry, very many good people get laid off.

I`m truly sorry that anyone lost their job and yes in my early years I worked for a company that was as stupid as the Clarion Ledger only in another industry. I lost my job and have done everything in my power to help people every since who find themselves in the same position. Sorry I`ve given the wrong impression.

I`ve just become very wary of ALL the news media in this country.

The CL has been in slow steady decline since the closing of The Jackson Daily News many years ago. Politics aside, the paper steadily shrunk as did the quality of reporting. There just aren't many articles in there and what's there lacks depth, especially on local content.

Here's an example with an obvious political agenda, but there are non-political facts missing in this example.
