but seriously...we're talking about the guy who ****-canned the first AA head coarch in the SEC. The Ninja will have NO problems letting Stansbury go...if/when that time comes.

Stans has an outstanding resume and has the ability take us all the way to the Final Four. We have come so close in recent years. We have an extremely young team and a strong defense. Stans may not be the best floor coach, but he can put together a winning team and given enough time we will be back in the final four and possibly be the first of the big three MSU sports to bring home an NC. I have faith in the man and a lot of fans do as well. Everyone can see that we lost a lot of talent last year and this is a rebuilding year. This is not like Croom needing 7 years to start posting consistent winning seasons. This is a coach who has consistent winning seasons, multiple conference titles, multiple post season appearances and also is in a very elite league of coaches who have won as many games as he has won. If any one of our coaches deserves time it is Stans. He has shown that he can put together championship teams. The stars just haven't aligned right for him yet, but they will.

you were telling us Crooms was about to build something big. Just shut up, you dont know what the hell you are talking about.

Stans is about to miss the NCAA Tourney aGAIN...he will be back next year, but his job will be on the line

We played like a bunch of pussies in the first half tonight. Yes, he brings in the talent, but even I would have known to get out of the damn zone at some point in the first half. We actually looked like a bball team parts of the second half, but why can't we do that the whole game? This game really pissed me off.

We have never been remotely close to the Final Four. We haven't even gotten out of the field of 32.

Put another way. Coach Polk, in his disastrous second tenure, was 24 teams closer to winning the national championship than Rick has ever been.

....should we consider firing him at this point. If we miss the NCAA Tourney this season, and again next season, then maybe it's time for a change at that point in time.

One has been pretty consistently successful and one had only 1 decent season in his career. Stans has earned some leeway to have the occasionaly bad season. That said, nobody should ever be given as much leeway as we gave Sherrill after the 2002 season. If Stans misses the postseason entirely both this year and next, it'll be time for him to move on.

Time and time again, you greatly overestimate the sentiment that everybody fell in love with Croom after last season. Although a few did, I think the overwhelming majority of people on this board were happy to enjoy some success (even if it was just a Liberty Bowl), hoped it meant Croom was not completely incompetent, and looked forward to this season with an optimism fully tempered by the realization that last season was, in all likelihood, more the result of a series of advantageous breaks than the long-term strengthening of the program.

Because, except for myself, Coach34 and maybe 1 or 2 other posters, it was a goddamn sheepfest all summer long.

I read this board pretty much everyday. I think you must share C34's lack of ability to strip away a handful of posters running up of post counts in order to evaluate the prevailing sentiment of the message board.

Including several posters that really surprised me at how sheepish they were. There were very few voices of reason or caution until the LA Tech trainwreck. The attitude of the board turned 180 degrees after that one.

Also, I can tell you for a fact that whenever Coach34 or me would talk about how lucky Crxxm was in 2007, NOBODY else would back either of us up when the sheep attacked in great numbers.

For a board that was so sheepish, why did only 21 of the 90 posters in the preseason prognostications predict us to go above .500 in league play?

I didn't make a prediction on the prognostications board, but I had many conversations with the guy who works next to me (so I know for a fact how I felt at the time). He was a 7-5 or 8-4 at best prediction guy and I was a 6-6 or 7-5 at best prediction guy.

I didn't come here and post everyday about how lucky we got. It was pretty obvious. I felt like our teams had some bad breaks the preceeding years, they balanced out last season, and this season would be a better predictor of whether or not to hold out any hope of whether or not Croom would ever build a program. I pretty much knew the answer.

My greastest fear was that Croom was about to string along enough 6-6 seasons playing favorable schedules to keep his job. This would give the false appearance of a program on the rise when it just wasn't so. I think we're better than that and I don't know, but I certainly believe Mullen will be better than that.

The only way to avoid being a sheep would be to predict a two-game decline in record given the ridiculously easy schedule we played this year. I'll remember that.

By the way, does your "source" say we have money for the Stansbury buyout yet?

Yes we do...I dont think he should be fired yet. But after this ****** season, it should be next year. And it should be a no-brainer. No NCAA Tourney this year and next means its time for him to go
