YOU OFFICIALLY SUCK! Instead of being the creative college student that you claim to be, you sat on you lazy *** and had to have the athleticdepartmentgo out of its way and create those cardboard head cutouts that EVERY other school in the country does. For the love of god tomorrow please wear a maroon or white shirt and notorange, blue, green, or red one. If you don't know what I'm referring to check out this photo Gregg Ellis tweeted out.<div>

Seriously though, I am wondering the same thing. This team has the talent to legitimately catch fire and make a deep run in the tournament this year (not saying it will happen), but yet our home court is not much of an advantage. The Hump used to be loud even in games against ****** opponents, but not now. I may have to be the goofball trying to get everybody up tomorrow during the whole game. It's a shame that is needed.

Because we have the most moronic basketball fans in America. The players and coaches have done their jobs for the most part this year.

I'd agree with that.(prepare for a hint of sarcasm) I have to be around these brilliant basketball analyst during every game and its painful. Not only are my fellow students basketball stupid they are more apathetic than any fans I have ever seen. It may have a little to do with the annoying mic guy and being put behind the goal(yes the location does hurt morale).

is that there's usually an unsettling feeling with in them that somehow Stansburry will 17 it up. I've never been that vocal of a fan myself, but even now it's rather disturbing seeing how little of excitement there are at these games.

i personally feel that the Athletic Department should address this issue immediately. I know they can't move the seats at this point, but they could run some promotions to motivate students to attend. They could put some of that billboard energy into our dorms. They could get a guy who could do a good job on the mic. Have some auditions and get somebody (Prob. can't go back to HF at this point). They could make sure that any commercial promotion is fun for the fans and adds to the atmosphere or sorry car company, keep your hundred bucks. They could get off their asses and get us back to "Mississippi State Style" basketball.

If there are State fans that actually think like this then they should not be State fans.

I just cannot wrap my brain around the idiocy of our fans when it comes to basketball. Zero perspective at all. Every loss we wig out as if no other team in America ever loses. Every game we don't score more than60 we wig out because every other team in America is running the Princton offense and backdoor cutting their way to 100 points a game. Every time a player leaves we wig out because no one else has players that transfer. Just.......damn stupid.

How should we feel? We've seen this thing play out before. We've had a great atmosphere for years and people's hopes have been dashed in the early rounds of the tournament. It's time for the team to show US something.

"Show you something"? Do they have to win a national title to get fans to quit bitching? We are well on our way to being 20-5after these upcoming three games for Pete's sake. I swear some of you still think that Tyrus Bosworth, Kodi Augustus, Ravern Johnson, and Gary Ervin are on the team.

There is nothing....nothing...that this team can do that will win some of you over outside of a Final 4.

...that would restore people's faith in the program. Right now, I don't enjoy watching us primarily because of Sidney. It's miserable to watch him pout and play no defense. Add Sidney to that list you mentioned of players that it are hard to cheer for.

I mean can you really blame our fans? The last tournament appearance was 4 years ago and that was a miracle run through the SEC Tourney that got us a 13 seed and a blowout loss.

If you want the program to be ignited, this team needs to make a serious run at the SEC or get to the Sweet 16. Hell, just getting a seed below an 8 would thrill me. But the last time we did THAT (getting a seed that actually gives you a chance to advance) was 8 years ago now. That's a long time, and a certain level of apathy has set in. Plus, reseating the Hump and moving the students around didn't help anything.

I think if we win the next 3, people will get excited, and if we can win the next 5, people will be going Ape S for the KY game, but right now, I don't see how anybody can blame our fans for not wanting to get their hopes up over a season that could still very easily end in an NIT bid.

...in 8 years and missing the tournament altogether the last 2 years. We've got to get some consistent tournament appearances going again and then we need to prove that we can win some games. That would ignite the fanbase.

If it's so weak, what's your reasoning?

I think Hanmu's "We have the dumbest basketball fans in America" is extremely weak.

It's a combination of things that have already been said here. One thing I have noticed at the games I have been to is that the student section looks like they are at a social event or something. Just sitting there and talking and playing on their phone not even paying attention to the game. The other is the constant commercials in timeouts. It's ridiculous how many commercials are on during the game timeouts. It zaps all the energy out of the place.

A sweet 16 makes excitement for about a month and then its back to normal. It's just like with the football team. Everyone was excited going into the season after a Gator Bowl victory and as soon as the season started it was a memory.

Most normal fans would be jacked up over having their best team in 8 years.

Here is what I do not get: We have traditionally always sucked in football up until the last couple years yet fanshave always showedup and supporting the team. We have awesome football fans but the mentality that our basketball fans have is beyond comprehension. This team we have has a legitimite shot at being in a Sweet 16 and you arerationalizing fans not supporting themuntil they actually make it there? Sounds like the definition of fair weather fan to me.

..is because you are preparing for a let-down from them in the future?

That's makes a lot of sense. If the typical MSU fan adopted that attitude when it came to football, Scott Field's biggest crowd of the year would be 5,000 people.

Only a MSU fan could come up with a formula that serves to retrospectively punish their basketball team.

This is dead on. It's amazing to me the patience we have with our football team compared to basketball. I also agree with you on the that we have the least knowledgeable basketball fanbase in America. It's not limited to the known posters on this board either. Mississippi is a football state where many times basketball teams are coached by football or baseball coaches who don't have a clue either.

It is always easier to ***** and sit back for an "I told you so" moment than to actually step up and support your team.

I could understand with the Slytanic, we played like **** and were never in the game.

What I can't understand about the basketball fans is we consistently win, yeah we haven't deep in the tourney in some time but we do win and all they can do is ***** and say I ain't doing **** till they do something in the tournament.

Don't waste your time on them.

....right now Lunardi has us as an 8. That' a second round exit, almost guaranteed.

The point I'm trying to make is that State fans have seen this thing end badly since 1998. You've got to make a tournament run at some point.

I am only speaking for myself. I can't address the students or the layout in the Hump. It's just hard to get excited about this team because we've seen this movie so many times before. Make one run and the whole thing changes. Rick just really needs to get over that hump.

Remember Phil Turner. It was impossible not to cheer with tiny Turner playing the 4. Harassing men twice his size on defense and draining tre's from half court. Of course I'm exaggerating, but not much. Not saying its right, but its true. We will probably show out against TSUN because the rivalry is hot, but the Hump will go crazy when Kentucky comes, especially if they're #1 in the nation. After last years two games got stolen by the officiating, we beat the Kats and the court is gonna get crowded.

Program's results since Timmy Bowers graduated. Because since then, we've pretty much underachieved relative to our talent level and had ridiculous amount of turmoil year in and year out.

So yeah. The apathy is the fault of whoever is responsible for that. That's my opinion.

The Rick's Rowdies were pretty good but they turned into a bunch of geeks and nobody wanted to be a part of them anymore. The result is a bunch of "wannabe" geeks that make us look worse. In turn, that makes the atmosphere in the hump worse. It all starts with the students and they are simply not doing their part like they used to.<div>
</div><div>I was in school when the student section was on the sidelines and we got there early just to get good seats and piss off the rowdies. It was hilarious and it was fun and it was loud. It's not any of those anymore. And it shows on TV.</div>
