It's time to take a hard look in the mirror, buddy. Your approach - it AIN'T WORKING! You can dog cuss your team all day long and tell them how bad they suck, but in the end, if that doesn't motivate them to play harder for you and get more W's in the Win Column, maybe YOU need to change things up. We didn't hire you to take the Sylvester Croom route to success. It took Paul Manieri all of 2 years to get LSU back to where they needed to be. I would argue Smoke Laval left their program in worse shape than Ron Polk did ours, yet here we are in your 2nd season struggling to stay above .500, getting swept by Directional Louisiana and blowing 7-0 leads against very mediocre competition. You better get this **** turned around and turned around FAST! Some of your coaching decisions these last 2 years have been mind-boggling to put it lightly. We've all given you a pass, saying you just needed some time, yada yada yada, but it's becoming more and more clear that you actually may be in over your head. It really is starting to become more apparent that Ron Polk may have been on to something when he begged and pleaded Greg Byrne not to hire you. I can honestly say I never thought that last sentence would ever be typed by me or any other Mississippi State baseball fan either. You have one more year to get it right. Your next 'Top 10 Recruiting Class' - you better pray to God they have a bigger sack than your last Top 10 Recruiting Class because I have never seen a more sackless worthless product than what you've put on the field this year. Again, it's time to look in the mirror, Coach. You can whine like President Obama and keep blaming your predecessor or you can actually change your approach and get something out of what you have. The decision is yours!

It has little effect on player evaluation but it definitely has a huge effect on program rebuilding time.

BTW, did you get fries with your order?

calling out the best coach to ever coach the game. That damn TOPS program. If only we had that to rely on, we could be CWS bound this year.

to the CWS in 2 years, won the whole thing in his 3rd. All I'm hoping for is the SECT in 2 years. I really don't think that's asking too much.

And again, Manieri got them to the CWS in year 2. All I was hoping for was the SECT. Today's epic meltdown pretty much ended any chance of that, too, and there's pretty much only one person I can blame for that. Thy name is Cohen. I hope he gets us turned around like Manieri did LSU in his 2nd season and if he does, I'll most certainly eat all the crow I can eat. Right now, I just don't see that happening though.

Blake Dean, Sean Ochinko, Jared Mitchell, Ryan Schimpf, and Louis Coleman.

4 of those guys started in the field for the 2009 CWS champs. Coleman was the ace.

Its not even close.

are two things:

1. LSU had some good pitchers like Louis Coleman that Manieri inherited, but not very many good hitters. We had the opposite problem. We had some good hitters like Powers and Duffy, but not very many pitchers. Honestly, if you had to choose between hitters and pitching, you take pitching because pitchers are so hard to find. I think LSU finished something like 30-26 in Smoke's last year, and we won 23 in Polk's last year.

2. And this is the biggest- LSU did not allow Smoke to completely run their program in the ground. He got one, maybe two years where they were down. Polk got SEVEN.

As far as TOPS- I really don't think it matter all that much to be honest with you because most of those guys that get TOPS would probably be willing to walk-on at LSU anyway. I was and still am against abolishing academic aid such as TOPS for the simple reason that IF Mississippi comes up with something like that, I want MSU to reap the benefits from it as well. It would suck to lose players because they can't get MTAG and play baseball.

get in the way 8dog. Some of you people on here just make **** up as you go. It's unreal. FIRE COHEN!11!

*edited to add: being in the top half of the sec generally means you're in the top 10 in the country. that'd be a hell of a turnaround, but we do have such a storied history of being a top 10 team.

yes, I guess they were his recruits, but Smoke's last team was comparable to Polk's. If you want to say his last recruiting class was better than Polk's, then that may be true. Polk's last class has been riddled with injuries, which should be taken into account though. And like I said, I just hoped for the SECT this year (and we had a good shot at that too until today), not make the CWS like Manieri was able to do. With some better coaching decisions, we would be there. Unfortunately to some of y'all, Cohen can do no wrong. I just don't get it.

It is truly amazing how Cohen cant do anything wrong, he has cost us two games in this series, starting Reed again on Friday and leaving Stratton in to long. It isalso unbelievable how much blame Polk is gettingin Cohenssecond year, at what point is it Cohens fault we suck? And honestly does anybody on here think we are going to be worth a damn next year?

I get it Polk didnt leave us with much, I think he left more than many on this board think, and if everyone thinks Cohen is so awesome why has he not developed the players Polk left?

I like Cohen!!! I think we are gonna win with him. He understands we are still rebuilding and that this season we aren't gonna make it to OMAHA, so why not just let the young pitchers try to work out of jams and see what happens. Some of ya'll unrealistic fans of Miss. State athletics thinks since we been to 7 college world series. people are gonna lay down for us.

he proves he can do wrong all the time especially in his handling of the mental aspect of the game. But that doesn't change the fact that Laval left Maneiri some damn good players. I don't care if they were on Smoke's last team or not. That's how he left the program.

when our current coaches took over. It was to tell Cohen that maybe he needs to change the way he approaches his team. Our players don't want to play for him and don't seem to give a **** if we win or lose. That is on the coach. If they can't handle being abused mentally, then maybe try a different approach. That is all.

In the words of Herman Edwards: YOU PLAY TO WIN THE GAME.<div>
</div><div>You play every game to win and let the chips fall where they may. Just because we're not good enough to go to Omaha this year doesn't excuse stupid decisions.</div>
