Exactly. If Bama was 7-5 and Mike Shula was coaching at Alabama, Tubberville would still be around today. The reason he got fired is because of the media fellatio surrounding Saban and the fact that Alabama is in the national title hunt at the same time that he went 5-7.

but let's face it, he hasn't exactly set the world on fire there recently. Loses a lot of games per year generally. Tended to beat the **** out of Bama on the other hand, but the worm has turned, and AU is not going to sit by idly going 5-7 while Bama plays for the NC. AU will bring in a big coach to compete. Like it or not.

I disagree. What coach is going to want to a school that just fired a coach as successful as Tubberville, especially knowing that his success is going to be measured largely on how well he competes with Nick Saban?

And before this year and the spread experiment, Tubby had averaged more than 10 wins a season for the previous 4 seasons. If averaging 10+ wins a year in the SEC for a period of 4 years is not setting the world on fire, what do you call it?

When? I must not have been paying enough attention to have seen "oh so many losses."

I read in one article that prior to this year, Auburn was 5th in terms of wins over the previous 5 years.

He was 7-3 versus Alabama. He beat them six years in a row. Christ, some people here were willing to blow Jackie Sherrill for his record against Ole Miss and he didn't beat Ole Miss 70% of the time.

Auburn has made a bad move. I'm predicting that they make a few more before this is all over. It will start with them jumping on the coaching carousel.

If Auburn fans think that this year was tough because of Auburn's performance and Alabama's winning, they haven't seen anything yet. It is about to get a lot uglier!

I love how he slipped Croom's name in between Fulmer and Tubbs before he said "They've done a good job for a long time. They've got a tremendous body of work." What a load of BS.

making the 07-08 seasons the worst 2-year record in his career except for his first 2 years at UM when he also lost 11 games. It's shocking how old and beat down he looks now. Auburn's definitely taking a risk by getting rid of him, but they would have been taking a risk if they'd kept him, similar to the risk we took when we kept Jackie Sherrill for the 2003 season. Tuberville looks now a lot like Sherrill looked then, like a man who has lost the fire.</p>

didn't nick saban bolt for alabama only 2 years through a 5 year contract? after repeatedly denying interest?

he's got room to talk about loyalty.

That was the most embarassing game I've ever seen. Discussed it with my Auburn brother-in-law over the weekend. We both agreed that both defenses were only average in that game. It was purely a result of incredibly ****** offese by both teams.</p>

He was being PC. What the hell is he gonna do, mention the other two without Sly? Folks would crucify him. He knows Sly's "real" body of work and that he ain't HC material.

as if he has been a champion of doing things in a way that reflects integrity and character, but these crazy college boosters, ADs, coaches, and fans are just determined to hire, fire, and pay ridiculous sums of cash. Hey Nick, remember this little nugget: "I have no interest in the Alabama job"? I do. Remember the fact that you are making $4 mil a season thereby raising the pay of coaches in this conference to a ridiculous level? You have been much more harmful to SEC and college football than any coach in recent memory.

Saban = 100% class. Indeed.
