One thing we have going for us...Phil has under shot Mullen's win total EVERY year. Hope he keeps the streak alive.

I love how Ole Miss got beat in a game by 100 against a below average Texas team and finished a bowl game better than .500 and is somehow suppose to be the second coming of the 72 Dolphins because of some freshmen.

Both Mississippi schools will be lucky to make the postseason this year. Schedules aren't very polite to either.

Bear fan to tell me otherwise in 10...9...8....7.....

I can see the rationale behind picking us to miss a bowl. We looked like absolute dog **** toward the end of the season last year. The most disappointing thing is that we flat out rolled over and quit at the first sign of adversity in those games. Unless this team has had an attitude change, we will struggle big time this year.

Did you miss the last month of last season?..

If we and the bears both play like we did to end the season, that's EXACTLY what will happen.

I have no problem with predicting us to miss a bowl game. We will have to win two 50/50 games just to get to 6-6, assuming we take care of business against Alcorn, Troy, BGSU, and UK, and that isn't a given.

I have no problem with predicting Ole Miss to play in the Gator Bowl. The West should be down outside of Bama and A&M this year, so this is a perfect year for them to exceed expectations.

I don't know what the heck he is thinking by putting Arkansas in a bowl game. They lost EVERYTHING from a 4-8 team. How exactly are they going to be better?

Not going to disagree. We should be better but could have a worse record. I can see either team finishing 5-7 or 7-5.

Its Apparent You missed the fact that we got rid of the main reason for shitting

If we and the bears both play like we did to end the season, that's EXACTLY what will happen.

The bed at the end of the season, CHRIS WILSON. Anyone who watched the Egg Bowl and Gator bowl, saw a dramatic difference in our defense. If TR only throws 2 picks or Prescott plays entire 2nd half, we win the Gator Bowl. Defense played better than well enough to win that game. TR was the reason we lost. Collins called a great game and had he been calling the shots in Oxford, OM finishes the season 5-7. No excuse for our defensive players being as far out of position in that game as they were. They were set up to fail that night.

Wilson never put our great defensive players in a position to succeed. No rush, no blitzes, zone coverage with two 1st round caliber Cornerbacks. We hardly ever played MAN Coverage, which would have allowed various blitz packages. College QB's will pick apart a zone D, especially when the front 4 cant get pressure. You blitz to create pressure in that case, and put CB's in man, but we hardly ever did. Put quick pressure on a college QB and you force mistakes. We were basically playing a 7 on 7 last year on defense.

The difference in us winning 5 and 8 games this year, depends on the strength of the love affair between Mullen and Russell. The higher the % of plays that Prescott plays, the chances of us winning games increases. Defenses know TR is not quick in the pocket, can't beat you with his feet, and takes forever to make a decision.

This is correct.
We also lost our main playmaker on offense and a lot of solid defenders. Combined with breaking in a new D-cor, combined with Les still running our O. Plus a tough schedule. Not a lot of room for error to get to a bowl game.

Is Prescott participating in off-season workouts?

I honestly don't know.

Not real sure that's a "fact." We **** in the bed for a whole multitude of reasons and Wilson was one of those. Time will tell if he was the only reason, but I seriously doubt he was the only reason.

I think Wilson had the most to do with it, but I also think our team got cocky as ****. Gold t-shirts underneath our maroon and gold jerseys? Come on.

It wasn't just the players getting big heads either. Mullen got one too. He should have listened to Brewster and sat Tyler at halftime for the last two games.

I don't know how to gauge this coming team. Offensive line could be good, could be bad, new wide receivers could be good, could be bad, TR could have progressed over the summer, maybe not, Collins could flourish with the new responsibilities, he could suck, and we could perhaps walk into the season with the same attitude we had the 2nd half of the last season, or maybe not. Who knows. High ceiling, low floor type team.

The only constant on this team is McKinney. He will be fantastic. Everything else is a mystery.

They got the big head and I'm not sure why. We didn't play anybody. Period. And almost got beat by Troy. Tennessee and Auburn normally are good, but were really, really bad last year and everybody knew it when we played them. A lot of our fans got fooled too.

We should never front load the schedule like that again. In fact, I like playing OkState early this year so we can get our heads screwed on straight. It's our first game, but it's also their first game so both will be rusty.

one thing is sure, if mullen and this team dont find their nuts, we are in some serious ****. relentless effort went out the window and we started feeling sorry for ourselves. that is inexcusable. this is a big year for mullen and he needs to deliver when we need him most....otherwise, we are in some trouble. one thing is certain, ms schools never get the respect they deserve when they deserve it, so its not a surprise steele did this. this type of thing happens every year, so its up to us to step-up and prove them wrong and force them to change the way they see msu, or we can fulfill the prognostication and continue to revel in self pity. its entirely up to the team.

Just curious...would you prefer a 2 QB system with TR and Dak splitting reps, a system where Dak got better than 70%+ of the reps, or a system in which TR got 70%+ of the reps?

It seems a lot of future hopes are being pinned on Dak, but he is really an unknown at this point.

They got cocky before the Alabama game, and went into it expecting to win I think. But then we got turned every way but loose and the rest of the season was down the drain.

What bothered me was the deer-in-the-headlights look Mullen had for the last 5 games most of the time. We did OK against LSU and should have won the game. We just need some enthusiasm and 100% effort by coaches and players for every game, the entire game, and fans will be happier.

If, and say IF, we win a bunch of games, it won't be because of a bunch of freshmen. It will be because of the 19 returning starters, 10 of which return from a defense that was #1 in the SEC in tackles for loss, and #2 in sacks. Also, because of another yr in the system for our returners on offense. Hopefully Bo's shoulder will be better because from what I understand it was painful as hell for him last yr, and cost him some velocity. The Texas game was big for us because of our defensive performance and not in a good way. We had 47 busts on defense in that game, and that's when we learned as a unit that if we didn't take the coaching that was being given, then nothing would change. We got progressively better after that. I have no idea how we'll do in the crazy-*** SEC W. I think we'll be pretty salty though

2008 Alabama had a good incoming class coming off a 7-6 season and they finished 12-2 with a Sugar Bowl loss after an undefeated regular season and they had a shot at the national championship until Meyer, Mullen, and Tebow showed up.

I'm not saying that will be 2013 Ole Miss, but don't underestimate a freshman class that is very highly touted. They have a lot of momentum and confidence, and will be very good. They will win at least 7 games.

This is why I'm having a hard time being optimistic about this year...

images of giving up at the first sign of adversity linger in my head. Until the staff and players show they can nut up and play their asses off for 60 minutes, I'm not going to argue with anyone about wins and losses.

PS is full of it. I think that he has his secretary make the pics. He just wants people to mention his name - but I didn't.
1. Don't think LSU makes Capital One. More likely that Les Miles era is over.
2. TSUN, AU, and State should have similar years. All three will compete for the Liberty Bowl.
3. He has both UPig and TN in a bowl. One possibly but definitely not two.

I'm not saying what % of reps either should get, but against our tougher foes..

Last year, Prescott looked to be the most formidable threat. He is a bulldozing runner with an average threat to pass. This keeps defenses honest. He was mowing down Northwestern in the Gator Bowl. He moved us down the field and they put TR back in, and he throws a pick. Northwestern was no match against our run attack and we decided to go back to concrete feet.

What did Russell do against the upper teams? Russell only brings one threat, the pass. And his pass consists of very slow decision making with very limited scramble ability. Against the upper echelon D-Lines, that type of play from QB just doesnt cut it. He's either got to get someone to jackhammer the concrete off of his feet, or start releasing the ball faster, even if he does start knocking people out on the benches. We cant have him sitting back there with lead feet, taking 4-8 seconds, and then throwing to a WR in triple coverage. His arm is above average, but when you wait that long, the receivers are deeper downfield, even with a strong arm, the distance the ball travels gives the DB's more reaction and closing time.

I think for us to have the best chance to beat the upper echelon teams, is to have Prescott play a good percentage of meaningful snaps this year. I'm just saying we cannot afford to let Mullen's love affair for TR hurt our chances to win. When the Bulldozer is working, ride that horse until they figure out how to stop it. Then change them up.

I cannot wait to see how awesome Prescott is when this is his team. Even more than that, I can't wait to hear how awesome Prescott's backup is then.

Yes, definitely start Tim Turftow over the guy who smashed all our passing records while playing in a system he doesn't even fit. **
