Wyatt has done color commentary on two TV broadcasts of MSU football. It was awesome.

Producing a radio show and broadcasting sports are two completely different things.

but I don't think he can carry the load for play by play.

And it damn sure ain't Jim Ellis either...he SOUNDS like paint drying. We are going to have to reach out of the family for this one...just like we did with Jack. We have no one associated with the program who can carry that load.

a couple of years ago.

I think it would be good to have someone that has played SEC football perspective. I know we have John Correro, but well, to be quite frank, he doesn't really provide a whole lot of insight.

Matt is a natural color guy. Scott should dump Ellis, go out and find someone to fill the play by play need, and hand the color slot to Wyatt tomorrow.

If we can't get someone else fantastic, let's hold auditions throughout the 2011 football season. Definitely get him in there for the coach's show.

His voice and accent are terrible and all he ever does is second whatever Jim or one of the refs has already stated.

...Jim Ellis has paid is dues and is very good and professional. I'll be very disappointed if Jim doesn't remain on the broadcast. He's not as colorful as Jack, but nobody is. Wyatt should definitely be the color guy.

For basketball, Bart Gregory needs to be involved, probably as play by play with Jim doing the color work.

Jim Ellis has been the picture of loyalty for many years, and he has put up with a lot of second hand smoke and curmudgeonry. Jim needs to get the job.

He's got a nice voice, he's very efficient, and if you put wyatt as his color guy, he will add a little more flavor. I think they'd be a good duo. Just leave Ellis on baseball please.

and put Wyatt as color for football. Shane Power for basketball if he wants it.

And keep Ellis for baseball.

...and he does a helluva job. I like the Power idea for hoops and Wyatt for football. I think that is a no brainer.

People don't realize Jim would be so much better at play by play than he is at color. Just listen to a baseball game and you'll immediately realize how good he is.

I will be highly highly pissed if things are not handled properly such that Jim is retained for baseball no matter what.

I will go arab on somebody's *** in starksville. as in rocket propelled, high pitched screaming arab.

I would be highly disappointed if Jim is not moved over to the play-by-play duties. I've always enjoyed the way he calls games. A few years ago, I would have suggested an Ellis duo, but I haven't heard Steve Ellis call a game in years. Is he still on the MSU payroll?

Go with Wyatt as the color guy. Lose Correro.

I like him, but I think Matt Wyatt would be a big step up as a color analyst. And I think Jim Ellis would be a step up as play-by-play caller over the last several years of Cristil's career. Not that it really matters to me because I'll probably rarely listen anyway.

My sources say it's his dream job. But my sources also don't think there's any chance he'll get it. I personally think there's an outside chance, but it'll be a few more years for him. I suspect Jim will slide over to play-by-play. That's what he really is, anyway. The only thing with Jim is that he's no spring chicken himself. He's gotta be in his late 50s or early 60s at least. So I don't see Jim as a long term solution. But do I see him doing play-by-play for say 8-10 years? Yeah. After that, we'll see. Kollmeyer is a darkhorse, but my gut says Bart Gregory will be next in line after Jim.

is involved in some capacity. In fact, I think he'd be a great announcer. He's got the northern type voice that would carry over well I think. Now, I don't want him leaping over Jim since Jim's paid his dues and deserves it first. I would rather see Kollmeyer than Gregory though. Bart's a nice guy and all but I've never cared for his announcing. He goes way too far out of his way to imitate Jim Ellis.

He always seemed like a Mississippi homer to me. I think it was a case of trying a little to hard to be "objective" and overcompensating to hide his loyalty to us. But he's grown on me since then. I'd be happy if he got the job after Jim. If it were up to me, "the line" would end after Jim hangs it up. Go out and find the best candidate whether it's Bart, Kollmeyer, or an unknown.

I used to work with this guy. He did play by play for Madison Central when they won state, and last I heard he was doing the same for Mississippi College. I know back in the day, working the booth for MSU was his dream job. The dude's GOOD. You out there, Les?

Jim Ellis has served MSU for a long time and has been passable as a play by play announcer for baseball. Let's face it. Jim's voice quality and presence is lacking. He just does not have the "UMPH" to take the job. Certainly lacking enough to rule him out for SEC Football game calling.

I know...I know. He has been here forever and loves MSU...well so do I. I will never understand the mindset that knee-jerks and decides to promote the next warm MSU friendly body in place of anyone who leaves any positionl of importance. Just because they are on campus does NOT mean that they are the most qualified to take the job! (If that's the case Phil Cunningham will be the next BB coach. God forbid.)

If we do not open the search and take applications from true professionals from all over the country then we are cheating ourselves. Argue all you want to, but Jack Cristil was hired as a young true outsider and had no real connection or loyalty to MSU. We gambled and it worked out. Worked out GREAT for us.

We also might have to get over the idea that our next "Voice of MSU" may not be here for 50 something years. Jack Cristil is a one-of-a-kind and we will never see that again. Judging from the track records of other schools in the SEC it might just be a 5 to 10 year association with the next PBP announcer....much like the modern associations with coaching staffs.

Jim Ellis is not our short or long term answer. Love to have him in the booth for additional content...but not to lead as PBP announcer.
