Should have taken the PSU job. He’ll probably be available next November for us.
Old Nick accurately surveyed the current landscape of college football. There is no longer anything special about Alabama. The almighty dollar has evened the playing field a bit. They can still be very, very good. They should not expect to maintain elite level.

Yeah but their boosters and fans may be the most spoiled and delusional in college football. Reminds me of…….us.
Every big program has a delusional fanbase. Heck even small programs have a delusional fanbase…Iowa (cough, cough).

The difference is no other big program has been down as long as we have. A lot of factors went into this.

If only NU wasn’t now on the hook for one of the largest golden parachutes in CFB history, that might be the case. A year from now I believe it would still cost more than $60 million to make a change. That’s almost Jimbo Fisher territory.

We didn't fall right into a pit in 1998.

It took a concerted effort and lots of hard work to get us from there to 5-6 by 2004.

Correct. DeBoer needs to somehow survive two more years at Bama.

While they SHOULD NOT be in the playoffs, which would then be the end of his time at Bama...it does appear that he will be "safe" this year.

This is why it makes sense to always jump to the next school, as long as it is a lateral or better move. You get 3 or 4 more years and more money. Even coaches who want to do right will find it hard when a loss can completely change the direction of the program from fan, booster, and ad perspective. Fans are so petulant and whiny that they will dump a good coach just for the entertainment of watching them get fired and the excitement of seeing who gets hired...then the clock starts again.

They would absolutely be dumb to fire DeBoer at this point. Learn from Nebraska Bama, you could be 20-ish years away from extending a 7-6 coach just because he has you bowling two years in a row in some low level bowl.

Bama can’t be what they were. They lost a legend (we know what that’s like) and they lost their competitive advantage with their bag man. Everyone had bag men now and a lot of other schools have more gold in their bags then Bama can afford.

It’s the way the game is and Bama fans can ***** all they want about NIL, but they are the cause for this. They cheated for years. Nick never denies it. But those $50k cars, zero down and no payments for 60 months don’t do it anymore.

Yep!
Look how miserable iowa fans, stuck with their lame coach for 30 years.

Leave when you can, like you said, you get to start over and the fans sort of like you a bit more at the start. These guys know the drill, especially when you are at a school with fans that want more.
