just so everyone knows the true rules..dont get caught up in whatever is saying from Wikipedia or what happened with Morris at UK
It is likely he will go through the draft as he has no choice now and then try to appeal when he is not drafted.
But I dont see it is as likely he will be coming back now....the NCAA is not likely to do us any favors..

Here is the CURRENT (Approved for 2009-10 Season) NCAA Operating Bylaws.
It doesn't make much sense in the wording.
It is saying all 3 must occur, but IF A and B occur..C can't.

12.2.4.2.1 Exception—Basketball—Four-Year College Student-Athlete.
12.2.4.2.1.1 Men’s Basketball. In men’s basketball, an enrolled student-athlete may enter a professional
league’s draft one time during his collegiate career without jeopardizing eligibility in that sport,
provided: (Adopted: 4/30/09 effective 8/1/09)

(a) The student-athlete requests that his name be removed from the draft list and declares his intent
to resume intercollegiate participation no later than the end of May 8 of the year in which the
draft will occur;

(b) The student-athlete’s declaration of intent is submitted in writing to the institution’s director of
athletics; and

(c) The student-athlete is not drafted.

This is the former rule from Prior to this season
12.2.4.2.1 Exception—Basketball—Four-Year College Student-Athlete. An enrolled student athlete
in basketball may enter a professional league’s draft one time during his or her collegiate career
without jeopardizing eligibility in that sport, provided the student-athlete is not drafted by any team in that
league and the student-athlete declares his or her intention to resume intercollegiate participation within 30
days after the draft. The student-athlete’s declaration of intent shall be in writing to the institution’s director
of athletics. (Adopted: 1/11/94; Revised: 1/10/95, 1/14/97 effective 4/16/97, 4/24/03 effective 8/1/03 for
student-athletes entering a collegiate institution on or after 8/1/03)

He does want to come back but one of our coaches told me yesterday he would be shocked if the NCAA allowed it. MSU was going to inquire but doesn't have much confidence in Slive or the NCAA doing us any favors. I assume Coach 34 is happy and most real MSU fans wish he would have used better judgement.

Well why couldn't her come back if he doesn't get drafted? It clearly says if he doesn't get drafted he must submit his intent to return to school in writing. If he hired an agent he's gone from what I understand although that NCAA rule didn't mention anything about hiring an agent. I would think if he wants to come back and he doesn't get drafted and he submits his intent to return to school in writing he should be allowed to play his junior year at Mississippi State.

he made this decision and he has to live with it now. He should have done his homework and should have fully decided whether he wanted to stay in the draft or not. I'm fully convinced that by the deadline date he was still uncertain of what he was going to do, and he just decided to say he was staying in. He 17ed up and now he has to live with it.

I understand he didn't do part A Scooba but what's the point of Part C being there? If you're not drafted you remained in the draft.

and I have trouble feeling bad for anyone, or thinking they deserve an exception. There are very clear rules and dates, it's not like these were a mystery.

I do not think anyone is going to get any exceptions...but the new rule really screws the athlete in order to protect the coaches.
Players now can not participate in any of the draft combines and have a very short time to workout for any teams.

But the truth of the matter is Dee has screwed himself...from not taking care of school business (so he would be out for the fall even if he could come back)
and listening to the wrong people who said he was going to get a big pay check in Europe and then that fell thru.

sitting in the AD's desk drawer from Bost that took care of A&B? It doesn't say in the rules that said letter needs to be made public or submitted to the NCAA or SEC. If he's drafted the letter is moot and destroyed. If he's not drafted ( which is the likely scenario) the letter would be a fall back position. Makes sense to me, but then I'm just a sixpacker.

Dee or the guy that wrote the NCAA rule. No point in a rule that states that you must do A, B & C when C automatically happens with A&B. It does seem the ONLY logic for having C in there would be a case where you do A&B or if you don't C happens. If they had just left C totally out then it would be crystal clear and Dee would be totally hosed (which he probably is anyway).

and I am fine with no longer having the moron on our team. We will miss his talents at PG greatly, but there was probably one way out of a hundred possible outcomes for this decision to work out well for Dee, and he gave MSU the finger and decided to take those chances.

Frankly, I haven't been fond of him since the halftime outburst directed at JV during a critical SEC game. I don't remember which one it was, but Jarvis was trying to explain something to him as they were going to the locker room, and Dee looked straight at him and appeared to holler "Shut the 17 up" in front of the entire team and coaching staff. I know that games can be emotional, but damn. There isn't any time that it's right to say something like that to your senior captain.

Dee, you made your bed and the man just took a giant **** in it. Have fun with that for the rest of your career, douchebag.

along those lines.

Here, though, with the new rule, I think his name must be withdrawn from the draft list AND he must declare his intent to return no later than May 8. In other words, he needs more than a letter turned into the AD.
