Deep thoughts on the game

First of all, I am really disappointed in Chris Relf. He has not improved one iota since his sophomore year. I can only assume that he is either lazy, stupid, or both. How much blame does Dan get for that? Some certainly. Dan is responsible for developing QB's- he has failed miserably with Relf.

To the Dylan Favre lovers- I told you that my beef with him was because he couldn't play, not because of his height. Today proved my point. The guy was selected to play in the MHSAA All-Star Game as a DEFENSIVE back. That should tell you something right there.

Nothing irritates me more than not having decent QB play. I'm not asking for Joe Montana or Peyton Manning here. I'm asking for Stewart Patridge. Is that really too much to ask for? For once in my life? Surely, there is some 6 foot QB at some private school that has a decent arm and can make some good reads on a defense. Heck, maybe even a QB at some of the public school even. Screw Chad Voytik or whatever other out of state QB that we are going after that will eventually turn us down.

Blaine Clausell sucks. He may be awesome in practice. He may be a nice person. He can beat me up. But he still sucks. He shouldn't be out there on gameday. Playing Carmon at guard was stupid. Move Carmon back to tackle where he looked halfway decent, tell Saulsberry to sack up, and then try a different combination. I am actually becoming an advocate of a four man line without Clausell. It's really not that much different. They are killing our offense. Unfortunately, Clausell apparently has Dan Mullen's Church of Scientology membership card apparently and has to be on the field. I'll go ahead and admit it- I can't stand him. He is too soft, and he is a *****. But hey! He has great feet! Or whatever.

I am laughing at all of these people proclaiming that Croom was a great recruiter. What? OK- maybe his last year- the Tyler Russell class was good. I'll give him that. Maybe he figured out some things after five years after all- he was a little slow after all. But Croom's recruiting is precisely why we are where we are with the o-line right now. Maybe a few less Templeton Hardy's, and heck, maybe some BODIES period would have been helpful to us right now. Now, I will say that compared to Dan, Croom was a better than him. And how much of that is Tony Hughes fault? Who else has he landed besides his own son? Why is he even considered a great recruiter? I haven't seen it. Hud should have been the recruiting coordinator. And who is this Ouimet character? Does he even do anything? And since we knew that we were going to lose out on every big time recruit in the state, maybe it would have been prudent to recruit some JUCO players to fill in some holes so that we can KEEP winning and maybe put ourselves in position to recruit better. BUT OH WAIT- we only take guys that get out in December- even though I would wager that 90% of the top prospects in JUCO are there because they suck academically. Anyone else here thinking that those guys are chomping at the bit to go to summer school so that they can get out a semester early?

We have got to find ways to get our skill guys the ball. I'm talking about anyone other than Vick Ballard and Chris Relf. And if we're going to go with a two trick pony, we might as well try some different ways of using our pony. Other than up the middle.

Why am I the only one that thinks the defense has been decent this year? OK, yeah, they sucked against Auburn- when they were listening to our plays. Other than that, they've been solid. Is Chris Wilson as good as Manny? No. Does he have to be? Not necessarily. Just do a solid job- try to hold teams under 20 points, and I can live with that. Again, I'm not asking for Nick Saban here. What we've done so far has been solid/acceptable to me.

And are we trying to be the SEC's version of Oregon? Just because some of them became best internet friends with some people on Genespage, we don't have to have a different uniform every game- now I'm hearing rumors of a jersey with gold on it for the Egg Bowl? WTF? Why? And I'm one of those people that is OK with black and even some silver, so I'm not some purist that thinks that our uniforms should ONLY look like MSU 1980 or whatever, although I am certainly partial to the NIKE uniforms. And yes, I liked our uniforms today. But it's starting to get out of hand a little bit. And back to Oregon- we do a lot of the same crap with the cards and whatever else. Unfortuantely our QB has only one speed- and that's fourth grade. So, the hurry up ain't happening, and we look like another copycat school holding up a bunch of silly cards.

Anyways, looking forward to seeing Legion Field!

Peace.
