While I'm somewhat pleased with our performance tonight- 24 points on LSU in Baton Rouge at night with a walk-on QB is certainly nothing to be that upset about- there are still some things that piss me off.
First of all, the fundamental mistakes that we make- like lining up wrong. I really thought that Croom would clean that up, but we're probably the only team in the country that lines up wrong as much as we do. That really is inexcusable to me. The other thing that upset me was the lack of aggressiveness by our team- in particular the coaching staff. Obviously, the end of the first half has been discussed ad nauseum. We probably left some points on the field, and you just can't do that when you're an underdog on the road. TAKE A CHANCE! Play to win. Who knows, maybe we hit Ducre on a wheel route or something and get a TD right before the half. But NO! We play conservative even though we had them on their heels for the first time since 2000. Also on defense, we knew that they were going to run with Scott a lot. I thought we should have put 8 in the box and tried to plug the holes up.
While we played better than we did in say, 2004, we are still not where we SHOULD be in year 5. We need a new, young aggressive coach who is stickler for fundamentals.
Croom will probably say that we are only "one or two plays away from beating LSU", but I say that we are 1-2 play calls away from beating them. He needs only to look in the mirror to see why we are 1-4.
