Although the offense left much to be desired, we have overlooked the performance by our defense. They held arguably the best offense we will play this year to just 17 points. If they can carry that over into Baton Rouge, I think we might just have a chance in this one. I still think we lose to LSU, but I like our defense MUCH better with Diaz than with Torbush.

Absolutely agree 100%. I was very pleased with the defense. And they gave up 10 points on a short field to. They played their asses off.

And I'll take that. Our defense is pretty good at the moment and certainly capable of keeping LSU's O from dominating the game. If we run the ball we will score on LSU. Turnovers will be critical and special teams. If ths special teams play well and we keep form giving them the ball, this game iswinnable for us.

Relf is our guy for this game. We need to run the ball.

That's 1 out of 19. This is our best chance than any other but winning at LSU is like HD6 having one plate at a buffet. Slim chance (pun intended).

Their offense is weak. This is a very winnable game for you.

The thing that stops me short of saying too much about it is the fact that LSU is to you what Alabama is to us. Even when LSU isn't that good, they still tend to beat you, just like Alabama does to us.

We can beat LSU a good amount, but not Alabama. You can't seem to beat LSU, but you can beat Alabama a good bit.

As an aside, that's part of the reason I'm not that worried about Saban being at Bama. We can't even beat Mike Dubose, so why does it matter if they have Saban? A loss is a loss for us. We've beaten Bama 3 times in my life, two of which were under Eli's watch. Your series head to head with LSU is a little bit better than that, but not by a whole lot.

i felt like in the first half they pulled out several "tricky" plays that really only worked for 1 drive or so before our defense adjusted. I remember they came out with a slick screen play early that they ran a lot and gained some yardage... and a TD. They also started doing a unorthodox, around-the-back delayed hand-off at one point in the 1st half that gave us some fits the first few times they ran it. Also, the pass back to Newton, that only burned us once, was definitely an unexpected gimmick.

Once we stopped those gimmicks (I know they weren't all gimmicks, but you know what I mean) they didn't get anything else done offensively. They arent going to be able to surprise anyone else for the rest of year with the **** they surprised us with. I think they could be in trouble for the rest of their SEC games.

I think we're a pretty decent team, and they kicked the crap out of us in the first half. Especially on the line of scrimmage, where we thought we would be good this year. I think Auburn is very good, and could challenge Alabama for the West.

they only ran it once.

I also think Aburn went vanilla on offense the second half, except for a few plays, and this helped our defense some.

No rush and no containment...we couldnt do anything. One would think we could atleast contain if we are going to stand there and not rush.

but Auburn is a good team. Auburn wins at least 9 games this season. Their defensive front is very good. They have a mf'er for a QB. solid WR's and RB's...

We simply played our *** off defensively and kept it close with momentum from being at home, good coaching, and a defense that's not bad.

Last year, Auburn had us 42-17 at the end of 3 quarters, with one of our TD's being a punt block TD. So while I hate losing the game, we have made some great strides forward.

Also, while I hated the playcalling, last year our offense got to play the 4th quarter against their 2nd defense- getting 93 yards in the last one and a score against those back-ups. We had 16 first downs Thursday, but only mustered 14 last year.

We're going to be ok

even on OLine where we're the most experienced, they had more games under their belt. Not to mention they have more talent on their oline.

Burns was under center in the Wildcat formation and Newton split out wide as a WR. Burns threw an uncatchable ball out of bounds to Newton in the northeast corner of the endzone. Inconsequential play... but a trick play nonetheless.

they didn't have a very good defense last year, I don't see why they should be tremendously improved. Better, sure, but not very good.

with very little blitzing against them. They also didnt take them very seriously at all. You could tell Auburn spent more time working on our offense this August than they did Ark State's- and it paid off for them.

Shirley you arent trying to tell me ULL's D is better than Auburn's? Look at the whole picture Rebel

It's another to give up 26 points when you score 52. From what I've seen, I think Auburn's defense is a lot better.

prepared for. Of course that is what a coach tries to do everygame but I think its obvious that once we saw what they were doing, we completely shut them down (see 2nd half)

from the game I saw the only time AU really marched the ball on us was when they were using plays/formations that we really weren't ready for. Granted that may just be to seeing a team for the first time (excluding the cupcake first game).

They only took the ball the distance on one drive, their first drive. They went 70 yards on 8 plays. They ran 3 bubble screen plays that our defense obviously was not ready for. Guess which 3 plays accounted for about 60 of those 70 yards and a TD. The other 5 plays that drive were pretty negligible as they only went for 10 combined yards.

I don't know what they ran against Ark State but im guessing they held out that specific bubble screen packages or the passes to Newton. If they did, then our coaches did a poor job in preparation. I think if we played them twice, we would definitely win the second game. They won't have the luxury of catching another defense off-guard like they did ours... unless they were still holding a lot of their playbook out of this game... not likely

The only other scoring drives AU had came off of short fields due to turnovers.

them on the scoreboard. We really clamped down on them on most drives once they got to midfield or just beyond. On the other hand after the opening offensive showing against Memphis and the lackluster performance of the Auburn defense recently (had given up 26 or more points in 6 straight games going back to last year) I was very disheartened by our offensive performance against them.

considering our football history. We've beaten LSU 33 times. It's only since Jackie that it got so bad.

By that logic, UT Chattanoga's defense, which held Jacksonville State to 21 points this weekend, is much better than Mississippi's defense.
