The defense was way better than I thought they would be. Solid tackling, good coverage for the most part and really good pash rush yesterday.

Hope we can continue to improve but I was happy with what I saw yesterday.

And the team as a whole, what a difference a good strength and conditioning program makes. Also, it was nice to have some discipline on the team.

Defense looked better than expected, but we don’t k ow yet how bad LSU’s offense is. Their oline has a bunch of turnover, and Brennan likely isn’t a sec qb, although maybe it’s just his line is that bad.

I think it’s a little of both. Their offense is pretty bad. But we definitely look better defensively than I expected.

If we play a team that has a good QB and can pick up the blitz, we're going to get torched. We were out of position a lot in the secondary yesterday. But we got seven sacks and several pressures, and Brennan was rattled.

The thing I'm happiest about with this defense is pursuit and tackling. And our defensive line is pretty good. I'm not especially worried about anyone running the ball on us.

The two juco LB were a pleasant surprise. I don’t follow recruiting so had no idea who Wheat and Davis were.

Fred Peters was a full step late in coverage at least 5-6 times yesterday. He may just be too slow. This D will be high risk/high reward ala JLD - we will get some big plays out of them but there will also be a lot of OH **** moments. If Arnett ever gets a couple of NFL level corners - he will be HELL to deal with.

That's the 3-3-5. JLD's best defenses here were when he had Smoot and Bean at corner. SEC football is different now though, and teams throw it a lot more, so you really need safeties that can cover too.

Every time LSU broke a rush into the second level, we had defenders there to make tackles and they did. It was a pleasant surprise.
