Defense

I know that everyone is pissed about the offense for good reason, but let’s talk about the defense a little. Many here thought there was no way Leach was capable of putting a competent defense on the field. Many here thought we’d have to defend 80+ plays per game. Here is where we stand in the SEC as of this morning.

Total defense: 1st in the SEC
Scoring defense: 6th in the SEC
Yards per play allowed: 1st in the SEC
First downs allowed per game: 1st in the SEC
Opponent plays per game: T-3rd in the SEC
Time of possession: 4th in the SEC

Imagine how much better scoring defense and opponent plays per game would be if we didn’t turn the ball over or punt every possession. We’re essentially putting our defense in a 10 point hole every game with the pick sixes and turnovers inside our own 10 yard line.

It’s only four games and we have Alabama around the corner, but this defense is playing really well. And it is on its way to debunking a lot of myths/false narratives about Leach defensively. Give the man good talent and money to hire a good DC, and he will put a good product on the field.

The air raid philosophy offensively does not hurt the defense, and anyone who says different has not done any research.

Holy **** our offense sucks. In any other year Leach has been coaching his offense statistically would have this team at 4-0 with those defensive stats.

I don’t see that as a possibility. They were gassed towards the end of the night. Aren’t strikes me as the type that flat out will not stand for a player checking out. I feel like they had somewhat of a chip on their shoulder coming into this season with the media talking about how bad our defense will be.
