A six team league is a good start but really seems like an odd match, I'm going to imagine that Dekalb's enrollment is growing and they really didn't have any other options for a league.

They were going to be an Independent...a disaster when it comes to scheduling. It going to be tough for them in football due to their enrollment (1840). They were one of the charter members of the Upstate Eight in '63 and played against Naperville and Wheaton. Now they're being shut out by the UEC...

The UEC doesn’t want them because they would be a perennial top 3 power in football in the league the moment they joined the Upstate.

In terms of football competitiveness - I think they will do fine. I can pretty much guarantee that they will not finish last in their inaugural year in the conference in 2019.

Welcome Dekalb! Good to have you in the conference!

So their enrollment is smaller than Wheaton South (7 time state champ), Wheaton North, Glenbard East, West Aurora, Glenbard North, and Lake Park- all the schools that bolted because they were "too small" to compete in the DVC. Hmmm

Wheaton North (3 time state champ), Wheaton South (7 time state champ, 3 time runner up) and Glenbard North (4 time runner up) competed just fine in all sports. Competition wasn't the issue, stupidity was.

Wheaton North averaged 20-10 in basketball the last two years and Wheaton South averaged 26-5.

Excellent source told me WN didn't want to move but WWS insisted.

I hate that my alma matter (Wheaton North) and hometown (Wheaton) left the DVC. But let's call it what it is: stupid. Not scared. There's literally no sensible explanation for it.

It was stupid, no doubt, and they competed just fine. I heard the same thing... WWS was the driving force. Didn't like the loses piling up in football. Worked for them this year.

In all fairness to WWS they were against the DVC changing in the first place, they would have preferred staying at 6 teams instead of adding the Valleys. Also they are 3-4 years away from being 1700 kids.

It’s funny since the DVC only existed because WWS pushed to keep it togther in the 90’s when everyone else wanted to fold the conference in with Sububan Praire.

I never heard anything of that nature CB....Maybe West Chicago and the Glenbards East and North were up for that but not the Napervilles...That I know for a fact...
