Ok fellas I need some advice. I have lost the last 2 teeth on my upper jaw, left side. I need some work, obviously, so do I do an implant or a bridge? The cost is outrageous for both, especially the implant and I have been told it could take up to a year for the implant. I am 65… would appreciate the advice
Just a couple quick questions to clarify... you lost the last two teeth on your maxillary left side, so no teeth behind them at this point? Were they both molars, and now you have only premolars (bicuspids) remaining?
If so, and those are the only two options you are entertaining, certainly get a consult for implant/s and see what your options are for that procedure. A traditional bridge requires teeth on either side of the gap. A cantilever bridge can be placed but only would recommend in certain situations. Two premolars tied together with a "hanging" molar is not ideal in my opinion. Lots of occlusal chewing force on molars.
Without knowing the state of your oral health and other teeth, that is the best I can offer in advice. I will say at 65, you are not as likely to have the other remaining maxillary teeth to shift significantly. You are at some risk of the mandibular teeth to supraerupt without a positive occlusal stop though.
Hope that helps a little (oh... and don't go to Mexico. Or the Philippines.)
