I was hoping the players only meeting wouldn't happen until after the Bama game at the earliest.

Players-only meetings usually indicate a sinking ship.
Yeah, there are only a few examples of a players only meeting helping. Maybe we will get lucky and it helps for us, but thats probably wishful thinking. I'm glad to see Ware taking some leadership though, thats one good thing to see about it.

Unless you are there and know and understand what the reason for the meeting is, you cannot know whether it helped or not! Ever been in a players only meeting! I have and it may not always translate into wins but it sure as hell may help the players come closer together and deal with people who think they know more than they do about what they are dealing with!

Wonder whats going on? Coaches get in their *** about closing out games? Leaders wanting more effort from those who are not?

Leaders wanting those who need a sub to take themselves out instead of staying on the field ie Elam?

What a mess...
Yup. I've never heard of a players only meeting after one game. Maybe it has happened before, but I've never heard of it. These meetings usually happen mid to late season, not after the first game.

A players meeting was called after the 49-0 drubbing of UK by LSU in 2006. We went on to beat UGA the next game and went like 4-1 the final 5 games to go 7-5.

But, you may be right - it may not help.
I was unaware that one happened after that game. Thanks for that info. Maybe this game can be Stoops LSU loss moment. It needs to be.

I don't disagree with the comment that it may help the players / team in a number of ways but I don't think it equates to more wins. I've heard of a million different players only meetings in a number of sports and they don't generate more wins. And if you need a players only meeting after only one game that's a negative thing.

There were some players only meetings in the great 90s seasons. I think I read that in one of the championship magazines, that they had one early on to get right and with the egos (think 96). That team was going to be great regardless, but they wanted to get on the same page.

People reading way too much into this. Probably nothing more than making sure everyone keeps their heads up and continues working hard b/c there's a whole season remaining.
BTW, I've been in players only meetings that occurred before the season even started (i.e., during Fall practices). They occur whenever the captains decide that they're helpful (for many, different reasons).

Personally I like that they are doing it right now if it means correcting our trajectory before we go completely over the edge. If the first half Kentucky team shows up the rest of the year then we can redeem the Southern Miss debacle. If Denzil can spur them to play 110% I'm all for it. However it's troubling he would need to after Game 1, and also the loss did not look like it was due to lack of effort. The linemen got their *** handed to them in the second half.

They probably got together and said don't read boards like this one, ESPN, Scout and such. THEY put in the hard work, not us fans, and know what they need to do to take positive steps.

Probably plotting their plan for when Stoops throws them under the bus on Saturday.

This is why Kentucky football drives me insane. Here it is Wednesday night, and I'm already trying to rationalize how we can best Florida in my head after spending much of the last three days ranting like a lunatic about what a train wreck Stoops' performance was Saturday and that he needs to go. They reel me back in week after week.

You are right. The players are doing everything they can to win and do something. The coaches on the other hand are not

I heard it lasted 15 minutes. Long enough for Elam to gobble down two extra large pizzas and a pair of two liter orange fantas while Ware carried on about individual accountability, self-improvement and personal sacrifice.
