The property they are acquiring is really nice and modern they will have facilities that are better then what any other private school will be offering.

I know nothing about Northside Catholic high schools but I have to imagine this will be a game changer and have an impact on the other privates in the area.

I was in that area yesterday - one kid is at DePaul - and I think I may have seen the new location with some signage. What's the address?

Looks like Loyola will have some competition on the north side in the distant future! This could be big

Interesting and good to hear. They will be locking down the Lake View/Lincoln Park families.

Gone are the days where lower class and even some middle class families can make the sacrifice for Catholic Education in the city. I won't be surprised if in the near future to see St. Pat's move to Resurrection campus, become co-ed, and becomes the true Catholic neighborhood family school on the NW Side.

Single Sex education is just dwindling away. It's sad, but it's just the truth.

I agree DePaul Prep has to work on the academics a bit, but the north side let's say south of Peterson and east of Pulaski had had a huge hole for "normal" Catholic high school for a quite a while - and DePaul is beginning to finally look like a viable alternative. While great schools, Loyola and Ignatius will cost you an extra $40K over four years vs. what schools like Pats, Res, and ND cost. And those schools are a bit northwest for kids in north side. They draw a bit, but my guess is they will lose those kids in their non-core territory to DePaul. And some in their core territories as well.

I don't think DePaul is really hunting for FXW and Sacred Heart kids yet. And they are beginning to pull Clements kids already - granted in small numbers. GT historic feeders are where they will begin to draw again - think Northside Catholic, Hilarys, Mathias, Andrews, Queen of Angels, St Eds, St Bens, etc.

Here's anecdotal support: QofA sent one kids to Gordon/DePaul over a six year period a while back. Starting a few years ago they started sending 2-3 a year. Then four or five. The 2019 class is sending twelve to DePaul. That is at the expense of Loyola, Iggys, Lane, and Whitney (none of which will really miss them), and also at the expense of Notre Dame, Pats, and Res (who WILL miss them a bit). With the new facilities this trend will likely accelerate at QofA and other north side Catholic grammar schools. DePaul has a huge area to draw from that is pretty much completely undersevred for the mid-range Catholic high school experience. I just hope they keep it in the mid-rage and don't go the Loyola/Ignatius route.

Oh yeah, and with numbers and a new field, that football team is going to get better too.

Very good points. I agree with you. The one question I have about this move is where is the money coming from? I’m shocked that at a time when most Catholic schools are struggling, how did they find the money for this?

.

They'd be doing the world a favor if they were to take anyone from that miserable, entitled, spoiled Sacred Heart crowd. Just the absolute worst.
If you're a teacher or a coach or a school administrator, do yourself a favor if any of those people end up in your sphere: prepare your resume. Not only will they trash your class, team and school the second they don't get their way -- you'll be to blame and you'll wish you never entered the profession.
The. Absolute. Worst.
