Couple of observations from the cheap seats.

OL is EXTREMEY young. Starters include 2 SR’s and 1 JR but after that it’s all FR & SO’s in the 2 deep. 7 of the 1o have little or no experience. 3 FR/RFR, 4 RSO’s.

WR is EXTREMELY young. Of the 10 listed, only 1 starting SR and 1 starting JR. along with only 1 JR backup. The other 7 again are FR/SO.

TE is EXTREMELY young. Both are RSO’s.

RB led by Leddie….. He’ll be good if the OL can open some holes.

QB ???? Doege or Kendall? Who will step up? Will either (or both) be back next year?

DL possibly the best starters we’ve had in years with the Stills Bros & Pooler. Backups are young but very talented.

LB should be much better with Cowan anchoring the Bandit and being pushed by Brand. Lots of experience and much better depth as guys come of the injury list.

DB’s should be better with the depth and a few upper classmen thrown in there. IMO this is the weakest of the 3 areas.

D may have to keep us in the game if our DB’s can hang in there and not give up the big gains and catches over top.

You are going to lose some talent after this year but for the most part that team comes back for 2022.
This season is all about going into 2022 with momentum

Similar to PJ Fleck and Minnesota from 2018 into 2019.

Hopefully the starting DL comes back, but I seriously doubt it. Those guys want to get paid. But...... if they stay they may start of getting paid more. Bigger base to start off with could mean much bigger $$$ over their playing career.

I haven't really looked at Pooler enough.

Production matters. Guy has a huge season he could end up on the radar of some teams
Both Stills' brothers are on the radar. You could use both in a three man or four man front.

I'm more worried about the O. D seems to have much more experience and depth overall.
O WR's hve talent albeit very young and limited experience and neither QB has come into his own yet. Neither have shown us that they can be a Marshall, White, Brown, Smith, Grier, or even Trickett or Howard.

There is talent in the WR room. There are certain programs that you see a WR offer from that means something
Under Dana a WV offer similar to an Iowa OL offer meant something

Wheaton and James both could be highly productive WR

With WR's you need at least 2 that are threats and your go-to guys. Austin/Bailey. Saunders/Foreman. Jennings/Sills/ White. I'm still looking for a Buggs/Mills type. Those two were my favorite duo on the edge.

Those young WRs showed glimpses last year.
I would put Sam James on the watch list for All Conference right now

But ultimately the difference comes from playcalling. Dana is always looking to attack and open up space. While Neal Brown at times looks to play a little more conservative.

You saw signs of the young WRs. Even Wheaton and Esdale.

Esdale is another who I think could be very productive.

A little better protection and QB play you can see increase production.

But take that away and just watch separation.
Watch how James can get into open space.
