Gotta stopped drain to the tub. Tom Drexler snaked it and said they pulled mud, it was a tight drain. Didn't know if they could get the snake further. Because we are on slab, they are talking jack hammering and costs running up to 8000 dollars. I'm on a ssi budget, already paying for a hvac monthly. How screwed am I?

Sounds like it could be a collapsed drain. I'd want to know how far they got before seeing mud.

Doesn't sound good. You can buy a snake for like $10-15 bucks. If that 8k didn't include an inspection, where they use a tool with a camera to scope it, then could be even more.

Or, get another quote and ask them to watch and explain what they find.

I would get other opinions. There are some larger plumbing companies here in Louisville that aren’t exactly honest. Definitely want someone else to diagnose the problem before shelling out $8k+.

"they said" ???? You weren't there? How far out did they go when they hit "mud"? Passed the slab on grade?
I was here but they didn't even get to the camera point. Unfortunately I'm disabled so I can't exactly get close enough to see exactly what was done, no room.

If your sewer line has collapsed it will cause ALL of your drains to drain slowly, if at all. Unfortunately, I live no where near Louisville (Thank God) or I would recommend someone.

So a possibility that a new plumber might have success?

I would not use Drexler.

Call a drain company such as A-1 Sewer and Drain. Have them come and look and get a camera inspection.

I used a one man operation this week to unclog my main drain line. Had the whole house stopped up. I’ll be digging up that pipe in the next few weeks.

can you avoid using that tub? Does the sink and toilet in the bathroom drain slow also?

Toilet and sink are fine. Noticed the problem when the washer was on.

Call a local plumbing supply company and ask for a recommendation for a plumber. It can't hurt.
What you're describing sounds "fishy" to me, however I don't know the full situation.

I think you definitely need a second opinion.

So the tub is the slowest?
Yep nothing else is a problem. The guy just went in and basically said there wasn't a lot of room in the pipe to do a camera and was afraid it'd get stuck if it went further. Then pulled up mud at the end.

My suggestion is to manage through the weekend and get someone else to look at it next week.

I’d look to a much smaller shop than Drexler

I've had good luck with Marvin Maiser. Do you have someone who can watch the snake/ camera while they do it?
I'm a absolute novice at this so, what do you exactly mean? They acted like a camera couldn't even be ran

Some snakes have cameras so you can see what exactly is causing the issue and/or how close it is to where the snake started.

If he says a camera couldn’t be ran then likely that means it’s right at the tub or super close.

Unfortunately I’ve seen the camera when I had tree roots clogging a clay pipe.

Yeah I need another place to tell me something similar before I stress anymore. Also read it could be something from the washer drain to look at, instead of going through the tub drain.

If it’s just stopped up in the tub then I would suggest to stop jerking off in the shower.

I have had positive experiences using these guys and they definitely use the cameras to check drains.

I used them when I had a main sewer line problem, had to have the whole thing dug up and replaced. They sent a camera through and showed me where the pipes had shifted and roots were growing through it. That was a $5000 job for me but I had 7 foot deep sewer line. Had called a few for estimates and they were comparable to the others, can't remember if they were a bit cheaper or just the one who could get it fixed quickest. Plumber who came out to check it from there talked **** about Tom Drexler specifically, told me if I don't pick Danhauer pick anybody but Drexler.

I've spent a lot using Tom Drexler in the past. Had to get a broken pipe fixed that was just under the slab and a cleanout added. If it were a little further back under the house I would have had to deal with the jackhammer situation as well.

You might try Jarboe's. They use to advertise unclogging any drain for $99. That's what they charged me. They warranty the work for a year I believe. They also were going to run a camera for free when my issue came back.

With your problem they probably won't be able to fix it with a snake but they should run a camera if possible and you can compare what they say the issue is and the cost with your first quote.

If your home is laid out in the typical 3 bedroom, 1 bath, laundry room is in the hallway as well as the small HVAC closet, then the bathtub is usually the lowest point on the drain system in the house.

If the kitchen sink, the bathroom sink, the toilet, the washing machine all drain without a problem, then it should be a clog between the tub and the main drain line.

Every house is different but I am having a hard time picturing his snake going 15 feet from the tub and NOT getting into the main drainline to the sewer system. If your main line is collapsed, then NOTHING in your house should be draining.
