Ervin would constantly get in the lane and lose the ball not always resulting in a TO. If there was a state for being outta control or having the ball stripped from you, Ervin would be way higher than Smith.

but he struggles at times much like Ervin did as a freshman. He played his worst game (of the ones I've watched) against Detroit on Saturday. His three turnovers in a row in the 2nd half destroyed our momentum and were a springboard for Detroit to get back in the game. He has to learn that he's not going to shake every defender on the court, and eventually he will. He's just accustomed to being the fastest, most skilled player on the court, and being able to blow by everyone with ease. Happens to a lot of freshman.<div>
</div><div>I think Ervin was a better defender at this point in his career, but Smith is a better finisher and shooter (even if his numbers don't indicate it so far). That's not to say that Deville can't defend, because I think he has the skills to be a really good defender. He has to work on his free throws. If he's gonna shoot 50%, then he's a liability at the end of close games.</div>

Deville will be just fine, he had some health issues to deal with, missed a few games, and it is taking a little time for him to get adjusted to the college game.
I think we will turn out to be one of the best to ever run the point at State, that is if he plays 4 years.

not be concerned with those atrocious shooting stats. He's hurting the team every time he shoots and he also turns the ball over a lot. I'm failing to see the benefit of him on the court. I guess you're just so memorized by his quickness you can't see what he is and that's a huge liability. Sidney gets his when he's lazy on D from the posters on this board. Time for Deville to get his. He can't shoot for **** and he turns the ball over a lot. Stop babying him cause he's a freshman. He needs to see way less minutes. I'd rather Stansbury figure out how to get Roquez Johnson and Shaun Smith (now) more minutes instead of playing Deville so much. Those two could use the extra minutes to develop. Deville isn't ready.

being born in the backseat of a Coupe Deville is the beginning and it only got worse..these coaches probably cringe when he has to go home, fearing what may happen while he's there.

Hopefully, Deville will learn how to live right and work hard and he'll be fine. I spoke to a well known HS coach that says Deville is talented but would never make it due to his upbringing and personal baggage.......he said, "I hope I'm wrong". We took him from the streets of Jackson, MS but can he leave those times behind?

One crappy game and you are ready to bench the guy? He's going to be a huge asset to the team - likely sooner than later. Plus, Bost is a Senior. We need Deville getting his bad habits out of his system now rather than when we have to rely on him full time next year. He's not going to develop on the bench. Would you rather him make these mistakes now, or when he gets 70%-80% of PG minutes?

I'm bringing it up. Be concerned get concerned about our gaping whole that is showing itself as our starting point guard for next year. I'm calling it out now. Deville ain't the man for that job.

That's why his season stats are so bad. He's got talent and potential, but he has a long way to go. Right now, he's not helping us much when he's in the game for the most part.</p>

Your a dumbass dude. We already have 3 quality centers. Why waste Johnson's RS year when you have Moultrie, Sidney, and Lewis? Johnson can probably still RS at this point. Shaun Smith is more of a liability than D. Smith. He missed a wide open lay up/dunk. Come on man, if you really think Shaun Smith or Roquez Johnson can be a bigger asset to this years team, your just an idiot and don't need to comment on basketball anymore.<div>

He's #8 on the team in minutes per game. Bump him down from 17 minutes to 12-14 minutes. I don't care. He's not going to learn on the bench.

I guarantee you Johnson can play the 5, might have even played the 5 when he came in against Detroit, and also what the hell does Shaun Smith being listed as a guard have anything to do with any point I just made? You said they should get more PT and I just told you there are plenty of players on the roster who deserves and has earned more PT than those 2 players. Shaun Smith has been hurt since he's gotten here, and it would be a complete waste of a year of eligibility if Johnson saw a lot of minutes with Sidney, Moultrie, and Lewis all in front of him all capable of playing the 4 and 5 spot. <div>

If he's hurting us in games, he doesn't need to play until he's ready. I'm not sure it's quite to that point yet, but even you admit his minutes need to be cut. Also, the bench has a way of motivating a player to make some changes he might not be as willing to make if he knows he's going to play anyway.

Deville is going to be running the show next year without anyone to lean on other than Steele and yet another freshman PG in Gray. Both may be able to provide a little support, but this will be his offense to run next season. I wish we had the luxury of being able to play him sparingly if things aren't going well, but I'd rather him work the kinks out this year while we have a supporting cast to cover him. He won't have that next year. Plus, I still don't think that it's completely outside the realm of possibility that Bost, Moultrie, Hood, and Sid will all be gone next season.

As long as Deville doesn't start driving the lane, doing a back hand spring and then hurling the basketball and the rim and/or backboard and have the ball fly 10 feet into the air, I'm gonna stay with him over Ervin all day.

Johnson and Smith are not Point Guards. We have two point guards on the team, Bost and Deville. Bryant and Steele are not point guards either..
Deville is young and still learning, Stans is bringing him along.
He has to get the minutes now or he will not be ready next year.
None of our 2012 recuits will be able to come in and supplant Deville from the point, trust me...
The team is Deville's next year, stop hating and show some patience. Did you see the AZ game earlier this year??
He can play well, just needs to mature and learn the college game.

that you're not concerned by him being the new Bost next year when it's obvious he sucks. Yet you keep calling me the idiot. Point guard is like the QB of the basketball team. Maybe it's time to consider other options than just being deadset on Deville as the starter. He can't shoot and he turns the ball over constantly.

I will say it again, he is a freshman. Playing the point is by far the hardest position to play in basketball, it takes time to get adjusted to the college game. I am not worried at this point in the season. Now, if he is still making these mistakes come March I will be worried. Who else on our team is going to play point guard? We don't have another one on the roster this year besides Bost and Deville...Did you take that Xanax yet?

Smith will end up being one of the best point guards to play at State. Basing anything off true freshmen stats.. esp this early.. is asinine.
