Did anyone else read the Johnny O'Bryant story on BDJ?

I am losing hopefor the 2011 class in a hurry. Maybe we can land Deville, Luckett, and the big man that nobody knows about from Mendenhall. Damn. Losing Adams was huge, because he was the more likely of the two big men for us.

/UK sounds like the leader for O'Bryant.

....Byrne leaving really handicaps us. We needed assistants to go THIS year. Byrne is leaving, Stansbury is not recruiting like he used to and he is talking about being here for the rest of his life, and we have no AD that can put some heat on him.

i've heard from 2 different sources O'Bryant isn't coming to Starkville

"The Recruiter" is lagging behind on the Great Class of 2011

We have to land Smith, Hood, & Luckett. But we will still be without a Big Man in that class if we do. This is not looking good at all.

But missing out on a potential McDonalds All-American is nothing new to MSU basketball. It does not mean that our recruiting has totally gone to ****. I agree that we need to land some of these guys but missing out on one is no cause for panic.

landed at MSU? The onlytwo I can think of are Mario Austin and Renardo Sidney, and Sidney has yet to play . I wasnt expecting OBryant was ever going to come to Starkville, and I think many on this board have repeated that. I was wanting Adams though, and think we could have gotten him if it wasnt for Duke.

Mississippi doesnt get many, and many were hopeful "The Recruiter" would pull in another....

The main point is that the top half of this very strong class appears to be headed elsewhere. And thats a sign that we are slipping

From all accounts I've heard O'Bryant and Smith both envision themselves as "one and done" players. Right now seems like that's more likely with O'Bryant but Smith might be feasible if his outside shot gets more consistent in the next 2 years.

And we all know that Calipari is creating a "one and done" reputation for putting guys in the league so if you think you're that kind of guy doesn't UK look attractive?

I've never really thought we had a shot at O'Bryant but still think we have a good shot at Smith and he should be the main priority now that Adams has bolted. I still can't believe Duke came into MS for a player that isn't projected to a McD AA. That's just awful luck for us but has been the way of MSU Athletics this season. I'd say Stans believed he had a 90% shot of landed Adams until Duke offerred.

If we can find a way to land Smith, Hood and two decent big guys then I think we'll be ok.

one day they tell you Stans hasn't had the talent to get to the next level........
one day they tell you he is the "recruiter"............
one day they say he does more with less...........

at what point do you require him to put IT all together and................GET TO THE NEXT LEVEL?

It's missing out on one big man, the other big man apparently leaning heavily out of state, another guy leaning heavily out of state (ammons), one guy going to UM (White), a guy with State ties (Hood) who is supposedly looking elsewhere, and us having no one locked up as of yet.

Our only chance with O'Bryant is if he waits until next April to sign and UK has a down year, while Sidney is everything we could hope he will be. As the programs look right now, there's no way I would choose MSU over UK. Or Duke. Or the programs that some of these other guys are looking at. Especially if I wanted to get to the NBA.

Also, the disappointment probably stems from the apparently unrealistic expectation (hope) that this 2011 recruiting class would be a program changer.

...and I believe you said that you want Stansbury gone if we don't make the tournament next year and we don't have a good recruiting year with some of these guys.

And I still say it. The 2011 class is a big year for Stansbury but it does not all necessarily have to hinge on Mississippi players. Adamsis not the only recruit in America. I don't care where the talent comes from as long as Stans gets it to MSU. I just choose not to freak out every time a recruit chooses to go elsewhere.

When Bender went pro, everyone freaked out. When Monta went pro everyone freaked out. When Outlaw went pro everyone freaked out. When Chris Jackson chose LSU some freaked out. When McDyess and Robinson chose Alabama some freaked out. When Harrington chose Georgetown some freaked out. Adams is just an another one that got away. If we get none of the 2011 class then I will panic.

of course, this is the same person that said Sharon Fanning should be fired for never making a Sweet 16 and then right on cue- she makes it
