They were talking about Auburn and possible racial motives. Bob Ley says something like "well did MSU hiring of Sly Croom help anything, he was given a fair shot with 5 years before he resigned." The panel without hesitation had a consensus of "well its Mississippi State, he was placed in an impossible situation.... so, no" When will it STOP!! I wanted to throw my shoes at the TV i.e. George Bush.

Edit: Also Finebaum was one of the panelist and it was pretty funny how bad he was ripping into Auburn.

the impossible situation or not given good jobs crap is just that...crap. it may have some affect on it but it is not the determining factor. these idiots act like croom would have NOT made stupid decisions throughout his 5 years if he had coached at LSU or Bama or Texas. he would likely have won with the previous coaches players a little bit more but then it would have gone down hill. he is not a head coach.

edit: can't spell today

Impossible to be competitive and go bowling 2 out of 3 years, NO!
A coach who can come here and keep us competitive and and go bowling every couple of years can be considered a god.
I'm tired of the impossible argument as well. If ESPN can ignore Croom's ignorance as a head coach, it just shows the lack of depth in their analysis. I work with a lot of people who are out of touch with SEC football and MSU football even more, every time I would mention how upset I was with Croom and how I wanted him gone they would respond with the typical 'You're Mississippi State, it's not Croom's fault. He's a great coach. Nobody has a chance to be successful there." So, I started sending e-mails and links everytime Croom would do something idiotic, and by the end of the season I had most of them convinced. If ESPN (and other national media outlets) would take a closer look, they'd see exactly what we saw. A guy who had no business being a head coach at the college level, maybe not any level.

They praise Gill for turning around an "impossible situation" at Buffalo, yet in reference to Croom its always "well he didnt really get a shot at HC because MSU is an impossible coaching situation." Well the only way for an unknown commodity to get a big time gig is to make some noise at one of those "impossible situations." I wish just one semi-prominent journalist would come out and say that they don't think Croom is a good coach.

A quick google reveals a ton of teams with bowl droughts lasting more than ten years. To name a few: New Mexico State, Kent State, Temple, SMU, Duke, Indiana, Baylor, Army, Arizona, Idaho, and Vandy (prior to this year anyway). We can pack out a 50+ thousand seat stadium. We have the 2nd largest video screen in the nation, great facilites, and access to some of the most talented players in America. Jeez I hope Mullen can shut some of them up. As bad as we have sucked we still have been to 4 bowls in the last 10 years.

how winning only 3 games in your first year and winning only 3 games in your fifth year and actually getting worse statistically has NOTHING TO DO WITH COACHING?

Aaarrrgggghhhh!

others like them is that they can now hire white coaches only with a clear conscious. And so can we for that matter. When the NAACP/BCA comes a calling, simply refer to these reports and experts and explain that we did not want to put them in an "impossible situation."

i can't believe this network is actually the best america can do in sports broadcasting. a high percentage of the opinions of the mississippi state's of the sporting world are totally misinformed. how hard is it to tell your secretary or intern to sit at their computer and look up the last 25 years of coaches in the sec and see how many of those coaches kept their job after 5 years with a record as bad as croom's? or better yet they could look up the winning percentage of coaches in the sec in the last 25 years against non-bcs schools or non-d-1 schools. without even looking i can guarentee you croom had the worst record among those coaches. expectations are high in the sec no matter what school you're at. all this is is pure laziness on espn's part.

cbs needs to get off their *** and get a 100% all sports (not just college) channel.

...then Croom would not have gone 8-5 in 2007.

What the media idiots do not get is Croom proved in 2007 you can win @ MSU. But then Croom proved he was not capable of sustaining success @MSU by going 4-8 the next year with essentially the same players.

Hence MSU didn't victimize Croom (which is the prevailing media narrative); Croom's ****** coaching victimized MSU.

Anyway, isn't "Outside the Lines" where a bunch of retards yell at each other all show?

it is so much easier for ESPN to discuss Crxxms being black, fired because he's black, or his character, than it is for them to discuss Crxxms burning what was left of our football program to the ground and pissing on the ashes.

National media will always walk very lightly on the "pc" egg shells.
