I have to admit, it really did not seem the same not being able to hear, "Pick up of approximately 8 yards!"</p>

...no nasally "flag on the ground" pronouncements today, and for that, it was a great day to be in DWS. Definitely an upgrade at PA. Holmes made a couple of mistakes, but he will get better.

Of course, my lack of being able to hear anything had a lot more to do with the very large band to the right of me that did not cease playing in the 2nd half than it had to do with the PA announcer.

I think Flick hardly ranks as a 'tradition'. Tradition usually implies something positive.

That is all.

What is there to miss? Him reading off the Purdue/Iowa State score ad nauseum?

He's almost as much of a tradition as Cristil. His voice may be quirky, but it's very unique and recognizable, and you definitely remember it as an opposing fan

Fran Drescher also has 'quirky, unique, and recognizable' voice; but it also makes me want to cram scissors into my eyes.

Flick was embarrassing as a football PA guy. He was more tolerable for basketball. I'm sure he's a helluva guy. But I'm definitely not going to miss him.

I missed the familiarity.

Wish the new guy hadn't made a few missed calls.

I was more concerned with us on the field against a WAY OOC opponent.
Prime time starts next Saturday.

God bless us.
I hope I don't have to leave Auburn next Saturday with a brown paper bag on my head.

Maybe Flick isn't the guy... But Holmes was garbage, and anybody that says he wasn't is lying to themselves. Maybe he'll get better and I hope he will but he left his microphone on a million times and gave a very pathetic "here come our bulldogs"... If he pulls that crap during a basketball game I'm going to be uber pissed.

I think he will really be missed during basketball season. I know a lot of people on here are glad he isnt our PA but I will miss him and think it was a very unnecessary fire.

One thing about Hank Flick, you may not like the way he said things but you always heard what he said.

Exactly what I was thinking during the game. I never heard Holmes, but with Flick's high pitched squeaky voice, combined with a quiet stadium most of the time, made him easy to hear.
Flick just IS Mississippi State to me, for better or for worse, no matter how good or bad

Way too mellow. More tuned for a jazz radio station than a football game. He was too soft and understated. It was hard to hear him when I wanted to not because the volume was too low but because he was practically whispering into the microphone.

if they had the volume where it was yesterday for Flick I would have loved it. For some reason we always had Flick's voice WAAAAAAY louder than everything else. But I'm not so sure Hank was the right guy for football. I thought Holmes was bad. Nothing against him as a person but his voice is like auditory Prozac. It just sucks all the excitement out of the game and makes you want to take a nap. I don't think actually saying the right thing is going to change that.

On the other hand it was kinda nice being able to totally ignore the PA guy. What would be really, really nice is if we make the smaller jumbotron stats and scores from other games including a kind of GameTracker thing showing what the last play gained/lost and then I could ignore the PA guy completely.
