Did Dabo tug on the loose string?

You could find hundreds of cases exactly like that at every college program. Look at Raiola suddenly flipping from UGA to Nebraska. I'm sure it was entirely coincidental that Raiola's uncle was named OL coach at Nebraska right before he flipped.
I agree. Using influence and even offering positions is not new nor necessarily unfair.

One dynamic as fans is that rumors and speculations become fact very quickly when our rivals are involved. I’m like @18IsTheMan when it comes to some accusations . . . show me the proof! But a part of me wants to believe the rumors!

I used to, still do to a degree, chuckle whenever a recruit chose another school over us and fans immediately claimed "____________ paid him to come". Those same people never considered that when we got a recruit other teams wanted, they were saying the same thing about us. Now, the outrage over being outbid for a player has lost some of its power.

In my experience, Gamecock fans have never had a shortage of excuses for why we lose. Other teams buy players, other teams cheat, refs hate us, etc...

As @18IsTheMan, @Lurker123, @Harvard Gamecock and others have said, there is a difference between being a fan and supporting a logical solution to an overarching problem.

Some are less disposed to overlook the messenger than others. I get that and take their rant on the matter with a grain of salt. It’s what makes reading a message board enjoyable at times.

So, when @Forkcock becomes exasperated, I try to understand his/her stance. But I do smile a little inside and kind of agree because, after all, I’m a Gamecock fan! ;)

I question anybody on a Gamecock board that gushes over Dabo Swinney.

Ole Miss fans are funny. Losing their minds on X that they are the ones taking heat for tampering when everyone else is doing it and they are just operating within the system that's been created.

News flash to Ole Miss fans: your coach was the only one stupid enough to personally text a player who was enrolled at another school and not in the portal.

He's right about the current state of college football.

Question away.

I'm not saying he isn't but why do you insist on praising him on a Gamecock board?

It looks like you're either trolling or your over here posing as a Gamecock fan.

I haven't praised him aside from this issue. It just happens to be the most important issue in college football. Everyone b*tches and moans about the state of college football. We all hate what it's become. Yet, not one person with a voice would ever speak up and say anything definitive. Until Dabo did it.

If some other coach had done what Dabo did, I'd be praising that coach instead. I know it's a tough pill to swallow, but Dabo is the only coach in all of college football with the stones to do what he did. All the other coaches will complain generically, but that is useless.

I've been BEGGING for some prominent coach in the game to speak up. I thought maybe Saban would be that guy after he retired and no longer had skin in the game, but he's in the bag for ESPN.

I've been pretty open on here for quite some time that I am fully aligned with Dabo philosophically on the state of college football. It's not a Carolina/Clemson issue. I get it, I hate Clemson too. But I can't divorce myself from having anything in common with Dabo. He drinks water and breathes air. Maybe when I was younger I'd have been in hating him for no reason other than he's Clemson's coach, but I agree with him on most big picture issues. I think he's one of the last coaches in the game who actually wants to recruit and develop players and train up men. That's why he shunned the portal for so long. I like his commitment to his recruits. You're gonna hate to hear it, but Dabo is what is supposed to be good about college football. He's the kind of coach most coaches used to be and were supposed to be.

As a side note, it's harder to keep up the hate when our own head coach and his wife are very close, good friends with the Swinneys.

We covered that though, right? Distinguishing message board banter from honest real conversation.

I get that the lines get blurred, but there are times we try to speak normally on this board. Maybe we should have a designation for certain threads lile "no really, we're being serious with this one".

:)

It might help that Shane has now come out publicly on support of Dabo.

I watched that press conference and was a little disappointed Beamer didn’t come out stronger in his support of Dabo. But it is a fellow SEC coach/school that’s under scrutiny, so I suppose he had to walk a tight line.
