but I doubt Mullen was offered the job immediately when all this went down. It would make more sense for Foley to step back, put some thought into the hire, and contact some agents to gauge interest of top candidates.

Just like when Petersen accepted the job at State and then changed his mind, only a few people know that for sure and it will never be a matter of public record. The public rarely knows when an actual offer is made from a school to a coach, and the only info out there is what an agent might leak to the media. And you cant trust that info because they are always trying to make their clients look as good as possible.

Florida is talking to bigger, more established head coaches. It's assumed Mullen is top of the list, but that is coming strictly from the media. So Mullen may want the job, but never be asked.

I know this- when Byrne and Stricklin got back from their trip out west, they weren't exactly happy this leaked.

Athletic departments around the country now are pretty air tight. Somethings leak from time to time, but how many times have we been pretty sure on what was about to happen - then something completely different come out.

ADs want a small number of people actually being in on meetings and making decisions, because the less people that know, the better. On top of that - if there is a leak of some information it's pretty easy to trace back.

People get fired and careers have ended over stuff like that.
