Lot's of joking that they would kill Nevada or someone for USC's crimes, but they didn't. Now OU in basketball and perhaps UK later, seems special treatment might be over. </p>

the conferences will have too much power and there is too much money at stake...the question becomes how will they be policed in the future?

The NCAA is not some separate entity but it is the actual schools that make up the membership. If the power broker schools have never joined together before, through their conferences, to make changes how will the super conference be any different? The PAC10 and BIG10 don't want a playoff so I don't see how they will leave the NCAA in order to start a playoff system or something. I don't see the SEC leaving the membership of the NCAA because we go along with their line of thinking all of the time.

Perhaps I am misunderstanding your point?

the "super conferences" getting so powerful that they would break away from the NCAA and form their own entity to avoid sharing the wealth...

would do its own TV deals, it's own administration of the rules, and really autonomous from one another. I would think there would have to be some centralized organization between the 4 supers in order to facilitate schedules, bowls, etc. If that happens then it is just another NCAA all over again with the schools and conferences making up the membership like right now.
