Vanderbilt will return 18 starters from the 2008 season in 2009, including nine starters on defense and eight on the offense. Expected stars of the 2009 team include All-SEC linebacker Patrick Benoist, Freshman All-American linebacker Chris Marve, three-year starting cornerback Myron Lewis, four-year starting free safety Ryan Hamilton, two-time captain and starting center Bradley Vierling, starting right tackle Thomas Welch and senior defensive ends Steven Stone and Broderick Stewart. The entire offensive and defensive lines will return, including 10 redshirt freshmen.

I'm certainly not predicting them to be a power but I think they have a legitimate shot at making another bowl game.

that Spring Game..cough..practice...cough must have been a good one

edit: i only predicted 4 wins though simply because they are Vandy and regardless of me thinking they will beat us, I still have trouble saying they will be consistent enough to win 6. if they do I wouldn't be surprised at all.

to predict them having a bad season than it is to think they'll be pretty good a couple of years in a row.

Losing Nickson & more importantly Moore will hurt them.

I don't expect them to fall off totally, but I expect them to be slightly worse.

They'll be just like last year. They play good defense and be very opportunistic. They'll have good line play on both sides and a good secondary, but they will have no passing game. They have no passing catching threat. Teams will load the box on them.

They weren't that good last year. They caught a lot of people by surprise early and backed into a bowl game with a mediocre opponent that was basically a home game. They lost to UT and MSU, two of the worst teams in the SEC, and barely beat an awful Auburn team at home. Their best win all year was against Ole Miss, in arguably a rivalry game, and they shouldn't have won it. They ended up statistically with one of the worst offenses in the nation, even worse than MSU. 08 Vandy = 07 MSU

I agree. The only difference between Vandy 2008 and MSU 2007 is that you had a much better defense in 2007.

Vandy was one of the luckiest teams in America last year. Credit goes to them for taking advantage when they had chances, but they were statistically weak both offensively and defensively. They took advantages of turnovers to beat South Carolina, Auburn, and Ole Miss, all in games they just as easily could've lost. I didn't see them as a very good team last year. Their D-line is not all that bad, which gives them a shot to scare people again, but I think they'll be hard pressed to repeat a 6-6 year. They lost to Duke as well last year.

Even the bowl win was a classic Vandy 2007 win. They got outgained by about 130 yards, put up only about 200 yards of offense. The defense played bend but don't break all game, and they took advantage of a +3 in the turnover margin to get the win.

they have 9 starters returning on both sides of the ball- including both lines staying intact and even adding depth...They are going to be very good on defense and stay in games...its going to come down to them putting points on the board...and while they will still struggle due to limited skill players, their OL will help them overcome some of that

They will be solid- not great...but solid and will contend for another bowl game
