I suspect that's because the team that forces a Game 7 in a regional is usually the #1 seed regional host. Just looking at last year, the higher seed was 4-1 in Game 7 of a regional. In 2011, it was 3-2, and in 2010 it was 5-3.

If we end up being the road team again tonight for the 3rd time in 4 games in our own 17ing regional, I'm going to be pissed. Yeah, that doesn't have much to do with why we lost last night, but it's just ridiculous. Do they seriously just flip a coin each game?

Its baffling. If we just play a normal game then we beat them more often than not.

I think i(key word - think) it is by design. In case it goes to a game 7 the higher seed gets to be the home team but to keep it fair the lower seed gets to be the home team in the first matchup.

The team that has played the fewest amount of home games gets to be the home team. Tiebreaker is number of road games played- next tiebreaker is coin flip.

ETA: If we had won the coin flip and been home team in Game 4 (South Alabama), I don't think we would have gotten to be home again.

WHY DOES "FAIR" COME INTO THIS DISCUSSION? we earned home field throughout.

The fair thing is such crap. If we had LOST, then, I can understand us not being the home team. But, as the #1 seed, we should have been the home team throughout as long as we won. Its that way in anything else. Higher seed in the NCAA Basketball team is the home team, no issues to discuss, no coin flips.
