Ha. Ha. They can get around that. Standards change if you can play football. Or basketball. Or baseball.
Yep. Their admission standards are basically
1. Be a perfect student with a 34+ ACT
2. Be a student from a ultra-wealthy family
3. Be an athlete and meet minimum NCAA standards
That was the whole "Aunt Becky" scandal. People were paying $50k to this guy that would slip the rowing coach or another minor sport coach $10k to put a student on their recruiting list so they could be admitted to the school with substandard academics. $50k was cheaper than $5 million+ it would take to be in Classification #2, which happens all the time.
What has really caused Vandy to be able to compete in the portal is that they changed their admission policy for graduate school. Up until a couple of years ago, they would not let athletes attend grad school and be on athletic scholarships. The change in the admission policy allows them to recruit older players and pay for graduate school and they can extend their eligibility.
Look at the programs after the QB left: Johnny Football, Dak, Burrow....
The only difference for QB's is Bama, they handcuff their QBs and baby their QBs so much that when they get to the NFL they are all overwhelmed and have their egos crushed at being less than average
Hurts is the only real QB but he benefited greatly for spending a year at Oklahoma with Lincoln Riley, went from a decent college QB to a great NFL prospect in 1 year
