I know lots of people look down on Maxpreps on here (including myself) but I do think this is an interesting top 25 list their computer put together. Thoughts?

I wonder what methodology they use?

I'd say Dinwiddie, Salem, and Lake Taylor are the top three in some order, going into the season. So they're not too far off in that regard. After that, I'm not sure how accurate this is. They have several teams too highly rated, IMHO - William Byrd, Amherst, Louisa, Millbrook, Pulaski, and LCA, to cite some examples. Not sure Blacksburg is currently top three quality in Class 4, either, though I would list them as a dark horse for the Region D crown. All merely my opinion, naturally. We'll know in four short months.

I think a lot of this rating is based on last year's results with some minor tweaks. In that regard I think it is much like VHSL-Reference. I agree with SpartanOfYore as far as the Top 3 goes.

That's about what I assumed. Statistical based ratings are not something I put a lot of value in until about half way through the season.

But, the alternative is our subjective opinions. Which can be just about as unreliable.

When the two methods tend to agree, that's something that is worth talking about. I believe Spartan based his misgivings based on the opposite, this disparity.

Just think, very soon we will be staying up late on a Friday night discussing how team A was able to upset team B, and for some teams we will be saying, "it's going to be a long year for so and so".

Blacksburg too high on that list
