I am disappointed that we didn’t get the two guys that our staff specifically targeted in the portal. They weren’t second or third choices, at least as far as I know.
It’s okay to say you’re disappointed too.
Harrar decided not to transfer so I really don’t count that one and there is noo way pike is going to win a battle vs. Huggins.

Just a reminder that while I expect Pauly to pick WVU, no announcement has been made yet except for some random Twitter account.

Unless a recruit thinks Huggie can get him to a pro league--maybe overseas is the goal for Paulicap--I'd think an RU degree for a kid from the NY area would be more appealing than WVU.

Just stop. We’re in a very tough spot to take advantage of this first wave of top caliber options in the portal. Despite some of your criticisms, we actually don’t have a guaranteed starter slot available. No matter what you personally think of how good any one individual returning player is or is not - here’s the reality. We’re expected to return 4 kids who started at least half the games they played (22+ mpg) on a tournament team, along with our returning top recruit in decades (Cliff) who is clearly slated to start at the 5 (no big transfer is going to assume they will beat him out for a spot in the starting line up and not once last season did Pike go with a 2 big line up). That’s not going to be an attractive situation for a Harrar type kid. Let’s take Jones out of it since he hasn’t logged a meaningful minute yet. Forget even the possibility of him beating out Harrar - it’s not even a guarantee that Pike wouldn’t prefer the RHJ / Caleb 3 / 4 punch over Harrar - at least from the kid’s perspective coming in. As I said - tough position for recruiting a transfer.

I have one gripe, but it’s minor. When Duke entered the portal, I think we should’ve prioritized finding a JUCO BIG to take a chance on immediately given we have 4 slots open. I understand Pike was hoping for Pauly (and there’s still time to find a JUCO back up) but right now we really do need another back up 5.

We did. We got Cliff.
He's one player, over two classes. And landed under special circumstances during the height of a pandemic when going far away to play wasn't seen as a great idea. We are in the big ten. Every single one of our recruiting classes needs to be above average to really matter.

Jaden Jones, Montez Mathis, Mulcahy, Jacob Young through transfer.. People really forget how fortunate we are with coach Pike. Speaks to how far we've come as a team to have higher expectations. There is so much talent in the portal. People are just impatient and want results NOW. Wait until the final roster to complain. We have 6 months. Relax

Montez is gone so I'm not sure why you're pointing to that at some sort of success. And mulcahy's defense is a major liability any time he is out there. Overall, what you are saying may be impressive for rutgers, but it isn't impressive in general.

Not to mention that Jones at the time of his commitment was a 4 star, top 100 recruit (prior to dropping back) with offers from Arizona, Alabama, USC and LSU (cash a plenty). Some posters have no idea what they're talking about.

For Cliff, Montez and Mulcahy clearly UConn was chomping at the bit and recruiting hard. All 3 Pike wins against the Huskies.

But please stay on board/thread message trend. Pikes recruiting stinks.

Maybe you're having trouble keeping up because you keep moving the goal posts. Those were good recruits with offers from good schools who were highly regarded. Pike can recruit and get players. He has proven it in the past. Montez leaving has no bearing on that. Rutgers isn't going to recruit and compete with blue bloods every year. If you're looking for that go follow another college. This is Rutgers. Where have you been the last 30 years?

The past is the past. We just won a tournament game so why isn't he doing it now? I find your low expectations to be just sad. The time is now to capitalize, cause chances are we aren't making the tournament this year.

This. After thirty years and we finally made it recruiting should be much much easier than this.

I'm confused. Does the season start tomorrow? Is our roster locked in? Your impatience is sad.

And you're naive if you think one win in the tournament qualifies us close to being a blue blood. Do it for 5 more years and then we can talk. 32 teams made it just as far. It's special to Rutgers but not to college basketball as a whole. Our "expectations" should be middle of the pack with a few top 4 finishes in the Big Ten right now. Slow down.

Where am I saying we are a blueblood? How about we recruit at the level of an average power 5 program. Is that too much to ask? Speed up.

Are better recruits going to become available as time goes on? Looks like everyone else is locking up their guys while we sit on our thumbs.

Cliff committed before COVID was a major issue in the us.

Last year's recruiting class - Rutgers was ranked #31 Nationally and #4 in the BIG by 247 Sports. You continue to show yourself as a moronic troll seeking attention.

The season just ended. The success rate in recruiting in basketball is different than football as class sizes are small. Judge Pike when the roster is set for next season not now.

It's ok to be disappointed with an outcome that did not go as expected. It would appear to be counter-productive for most to be disappointed prior to any outcome. Point is, why be disappointed now - ahead of the roster slots being filled and seeing how the team performs?

I am not talking about last year, and I have aired my doubts that we'd land cliff had he not committed when the world was watching a virus spread to the level of pandemic.

I am asking that we recruit at an average pace a year after making the ncaa for the first time. Does sharing my opinion make me a troll? Am I not allowed to have expectations for our program? You don't seem to have any..that's kinda sad. Do you think this level of recruiting is acceptable?

Wanting better recruits at this stage in this programs development makes me a moron. Got it. Great point. Really a lot to go over and digest there.

Facts.... Committed in March 2020.
Cliff committed before COVID was a major issue in the us.
I'm not gonna let you two gloss over these absolutely moronic statements.

Cliff committed to us 3/29. The ncaa tournament and nba season were cancelled before March 12. And you think things in the world were not affected by covid when cliff committed. Where do you come up with this crap? Seems his commitment IMMEDIATELY followed massive changes in the world due to covid. You two are flat out and without debate just plain wrong.

It was talked about ad nauseum by site insiders that covid and everything happening in the world helped us land cliff because he wanted to be near his family. Was it the only influencer? No. Did it have a profound effect? Definitely.

You are correct. I think I had his date confused with Jaden Jones who committed on March 4.

But it did NOT go as expected. The guys we have targeted FIRST in the portal and reciprocated interest are NOT COMING. I understand the point about it ain’t over yet, but why then are our in state rivals and in conference rivals able to recruit out of the portal thus far? I mean we can get CJ Gettys type any time we want, but he won’t be a difference maker.
Can we at least agree that if Pike whiffs on Baker then we have a problem?
