Discussion- Left Tackle

Have heard it mentioned by supposed "football minds" that left tackle doesn't have near as much importance in the spread as it does in a pro style offense.
Is this sunshine pumpin at its worse or will we be alright with whoever plays their this fall?

Can't play football with 10 vs. 11. So yes, I would say it is just as important in spread as it is in pro style (the style offense really doesn't matter).

that the spread doesn't generally have 5 to 7 step drops from center making protecting the blind side less ofan issue. more misdirection and play fakes and options keeps the dl unbalanced.

but if I were a coach and had a beast of a left tackle, I would take advantage of it. I don't think there is a position on the field that is "less important" or "less used" than any other, but if a coach is weak at a certain position, they are going to design plays that take his "weakness" as much out of the equation as possible. That is just my opinion.

It's still arguably the most important lineman, just not as crucial as it is in a pro-style offense.
