Is your defense good because teams really don't have to score much and they can coast after getting up 10+ (cough Ole Miss). I always thought that with a Croom coached team. You get up 10, we really aren't coming back. That's why I think we had lower scoring games against some decent teams.

Discuss.

See the 07 season. SEC teams are not going to show mercy on anyone- especially another conference foe. Vandy has a pretty good defense as far as I can tell. We also had our share of blow-outs during the Croom era, we were always stronger on defense. It needs to be mentioned that Vandy also has an excellent punter that can pin teams back, and I think that helps them with the margin of loss.

I am assuming you mean getting up 10+ relatively early in the game. I think any smart coach would treat the rest of the game as a freebie extra scrimmage in which to improve their team. Coasting to victory is a waste of everyones time, especially the team/coach who is winning.... IMO

Very few coaches in the SEC are going to let up on anyone. It's not like Bama wasn't trying to score touchdowns last Saturday, they just got stopped. Mississippi's defense matches up much better with Bama's offense than it does with spread offenses.

teams will take fewer chances once they get up, knowing they can coast...I remember a few games during the Crooms Error that teams just coasted in the 2nd half, not trying to score, but to just get out of the game with any injuries. Hell, Tubby was trying to do that in the 3-2 game, but they kept fumbling. He knew we couldnt score, and they were just trying to run the clock- but fumbled 2 or 3 times in the last quarter and half I think

but that game was never and I mean never in doubt. Once Bama saw they could control the game I think they went conservative.

what's the saying? Throw to get ahead and run to stay there.

Of course, just being conservative doesn't necessarily mean that you are aren't trying to score. It likely means that you are trying to use common sense and win the game, which should take priority over everything.

Our worst offensive output of the year. We refused to take chances because that was the only eat they were going to score.

Most of Crooms' LSU games were like that. It was like they were scrimmaging. They knew all they had to do was score once and the game was over. I'm convinced that some teams spent half of our game week watching film of their next opponent.

as easy as we were to scout, i guarantee you part of the defensive staffs of other teams began working on the next week's team to get a head start
