Why would ESPN not care till the tournament ?
They have never once aired a NCAA tournament game. That's CBS,TBS TNT and Tru TV that does all the tournament games.
Because most people don't care about college basketball anymore until near the end of the season. NBA junkies have been fully aware that the Flagg lottery is approaching. ESPN will push Flagg for the upcoming NBA interest. The fact that he plays for Duke just sweetens the pot.

The ESPN Gods hath decided the best way to get ratings is to promote Cooper Flagg as must see TV. And so it shall be.

It probably goes back to some guy with a VP or Director in his email signature, who has decided this is how it must be. And so it shall, for that man is all-knowing.

Amen.
It's like Yule Brenner as Ramses. " So let it be written, so let it be done"

I would be my Aunt Tilly's prosthetic leg that if Flagg played for Kentucky and scored 30 PPG, he still would not get the run from ESPN that he gets having that Duke jersey on. It's science....

Eh, he's good. It was his first big college game. We wore him down a bit, and the pressure got to him. But he had a freaking double-double for goodness sakes. 26 points and 12 rebounds against an experienced team. That's nothing to sneeze at.

Sure the slobber fest is too much. But to act like the dude is trash is disingenuous.
Don't think anyone has called him trash. I've heard nothing but compliments on here for the kid and his performance.
It's just the slurpfest, which is somewhat deserved for such a talented 17 year old, mixed with practically zero mention or highlights of the GD players/team that actually won the game.
That's what is irritating.

I know they don’t care, but having the entire highlight reel be Duke highlights, when Duke lost, 24 hours later, is a good way to get fans of the winning team to stop even bothering to watch.

It’s silly, and just…not good marketing. The Duke fan base is limited. Highlight packages should focus on the winning team. So the fans of the winning team keep watching.

When it counted, he dribbled into the corner and fell down.
Credit to our boys. They ran Duke to death. They were all wobbly legged at the end.
What gets me now is Duke claiming cramps caused them the game, ESPN jumping in as well, yet before the game Bilas the ESPN panel all claiming Duke was so deep. If they were so deep why did their coach not use his bench and why was the Duke bench not more effective, Seems like UK's bench which is 10 plus deep was much more effective.

Outside of the actual games, I don’t pay attention to ESPN. Even during half I’ll mute the tv and go do something else.

I do agree with Bilas and duke games, that gets old.
same with me
never watch ESPN unless I am watching a game
growing up I watched ESPN constantly

There is a bias whether anyone wants to admit it or not. Back before Cal UK got as much pub as any team. During Cal, the hatred shown through but not for UK as much as it was for the egomaniac at the helm. What we will deal with for a little while longer is the residue left by Cal. I remember coach Channey was going to whip his *** once for running his smartass mouth. He rubbed everyone that way and it shows with the way the refs treat him and how the media treats him and his teams. His ego while it pushed him and made him great in his younger years is going to be his downfall in his older years.

I was raised to watch the games on mute, because my Mom never could stand the announcers so we listened to Cawood. I'm usually too lazy to try to sync the tv up to the radio so I still watched them up until about 10 years ago on mute. My wife never understood why I watched on mute and thought I was weird, and she likes sound so I started watching them with volume for her. Last night, at some point during the second half after listening to Bilas all game, she looked at me and said, "ok, I understand now why you learned to watch the games muted." She's not into UK basketball near as much as me, so that fact that she noticed it just shows how bad he was.

In Football ESPN won't let Kirk Herbstreet choose who he thinks will win. I mean that's not a great analogy but it's close enough, lol

Yep, that's why their ratings are so bad. I can remember when ESPN first started, I would rearrange things to watch Sportscenter. Not so anymore. They've always slobbered all over ACC and what used to be BigEast teams. Those are their preferred teams and they promote them with propaganda.
Their commercials were hilarious too. The Steve Erwin one tackling the gator mascot was hilarious.

This is the way!

ESPN has been an ACC / BIG East back in the day love fest. They do not like the SEC and probably hate having SEC on their network. Heck I would rather have SEC on CBS/FOX than ESPN but what can you do. I typically turn the channel at half and do not even watch what those idiots have to say.

UK could have picks 1-10 of the upcoming draft (next year), beat every team by 50pts, beat a few NBA teams (scrimmages) and ESPN would still rather cover DUKE / UCONN / UNC / Kansas and so forth. Do not even care anymore.
It doesn't help that ESPN staffs it's offices with UNC and Duke grads.

Perhaps their trainer could stock some midol.
