Right now it is speculation as to why so I will wait to hear from Riley.
Homesick? Hope he sticks it out. He is in line to play as a true freshman. Hang in there.

Multiple sources confirming that freshman WR Derrion Grim has left the #Huskers program. Homesick big factor. More tomorrow at 9am @espn1480

Too bad it didn't work out but things happen and hopefully he won't regret this decision

forgive me as I have had more than a few thus far this fine evening.. but maybe he is truly home sick ... home sick in the same way Tyler Moore was home sick ... the sororities at Nebraska should be embarrassed

Drink on. I am on my third Bourbon of the night. I usually stop at two, but this news pushed me on.
Homesickness stinks. As an undergrad I transferred from UNL to a college in Maryland at age 18. God I was homesick. It might seem like a small thing, but it really can be a huge factor for these young guys.

Why is it disturbing news?

There are three positions I don't worry about; QB, WR, LB. We have excellent, proven coaches for all three spots and they're pretty salty on the recruiting trail as well.
Kind of what I was thinking too. After the news we heard a month ago today, when I see a thread talking about "disturbing news", I'm expecting just about anything. I was actually somewhat relieved when I saw what it was and who it involved. Not that it's good to see any player leave, but losing a true freshman at a deep position isn't that disturbing to me.

Disturbing was probably a bad word choice. My apologies

Crappy news then. A talented receiver is leaving. There was still a possibility he was going to play as a true freshman. While the effect won't be felt this season, it could have a bigger effect next. Nebraska loses 3 seniors WR in Moore, Reilly and Westercamp. Meaning they only return DPE and Morgan with more than 1 season of playing time. DPE hasn't proven to be able to stay healthy. So now a position with a lot of returning experience in 2016 becomes a very inexperienced group in 2017.

I wouldn't apologize, some people just love to be offended.

Hopefully he lands on his feet and has a successful career.

The linked article says Grim was being considered for a redshirt season as late as yesterday by Langs. I wonder if that possibility played a role here. Homesick plus no playing time. Just speculating....

Benning was talking along a similar line. Spoke about how he had similar issues and how tons of guys struggle that first year.

Grim also said he was struggling in the spring some. Being an early enrollee can be hard. Who knows what's going on back home with friends/girls. Snapchat, Facebook, etc can make being away hard. That prom snap of your friend and your girl can make your mind wander to bad places when aren't in a good place.
