I would have said LB, WF, SC, WS in that order at the start of the season. I think by the end of the regular season it could be WF, SC/LB, and who knows after that (as scloufan# said, there is a drop off starting to appear).

So far LB has not impressed as much as I expected. 21-14 over Robinson after leading 21-0 at the half; 24-21 over West Potomac. I thought they would win both of those easily. On paper, the Centreville win looks good, but CV will struggle to just make the playoffs if they don't fix their issues soon so that win loses some luster.

WF losing their best RB and the suspensions have hurt them but with the suspended players now back if they hit the ground running in the next few weeks they could easily become the #1 contender despite the loss to SC. The next two weeks (Briar Woods and Robinson) will tell a whole lot.

SC, although greatly improved, won't be tested again until their final regular season game against LB. Their schedule is not great and their signature win was against WF with the suspended players.

WS defeats a solid Robinson team the first week with a late 4th quarter drive and takes SC to the wire, then gets crushed by Stone Bridge. Not sure if they were just off or if they have been exposed.

Westfield may have best defense in Simmons era, but likely the worst offense in their history. Players coming back will not fix that very un-athletic offensive line, championship teams have to be able to run the ball a little bit. They can't run at all. The question is can you win a championship as such a one-dimensional team. This year, maybe???

The question was not about winning a state championship, but about who might be the best in Fairfax county. You extrapolation to the state championship is logical, however, since that is the ultimate goal. I cannot disagree with the fact you need a good running game to be a true championship caliber team. WF lacks the dynamic, breakaway runner they have traditionally had and that is why their offense has not been on par with its historical performance. Their line may not be as athletic as you think they should be but I don't think WF traditionally has an "athletic" line-just well versed in what they need to do. As the season has progressed they seem to have shown some improvement, as has the running game, but I don't expect they will get to the level of past teams with the running game.

IMO, the team that represents the North this year will have an uphill battle with the South rep, whether it is Ocean Lakes, Oscar Smith, Hylton, or whomever. The North has some good teams, but all have their flaws.
