<span style="font-size: 11px;">To sign a runner of his caliber says a
lot about the respect our program has gained," MullenSchmidt said. "We expect
to compete on a national level, and to have a player like James Harris
come to Mississippi State will help us achieve our goals."</span>

We just signed this guy to the track team. He has Alabama state championships and gold medals in the 400, 200, and high jump. He is 6-5. Don't know what he weighs.

In addition to track, he played football and basketball in high school. Don't know if Mullen has his eyes on him to play for us.

...cuz I don't know mayne.

It seems strange a guy can pay his own way to school and play football without a scholarship. But a 2-sport athlete can't get a scholly in 1 sport then participate in 2 sports?

Sure my suggesting opens the door to create a men's basketweaving team as a front for more football scholarships. But still....

It would be way too easy for a school to get around the football and basketball scholarship limitations. That's why you have to have a rule that you can't have athletes on scholarship for other sports (or academic scholarships) play those sports and not count against the limit.

Scholarship football players who play baseball on the side, like Chad Jones? Surely those can't count as a full scholly of the 11.7, so does that rule apply only for football?

that doesn't appear to be the same James Harris. The one we signed is from Alabama. This one's from Kansas City.

A player like Chad Jones counts against the football team's limit, but not against the baseball team's. Similarly, lots of baseball players get academic scholarships that don't count against the limit. </p>
