See the link above under Daily Journal blog. It gives Vandy's momentum as a reason to pick Vandy over State for the MCB.

Vandy's momentum? Vandy has gone 3-6 over their last 9 games. State has gone 5-4 over our last 9. They've gone 2-3 over their last 5, we've gone 3-2.

We are both 6-6 and 2-6 in the SEC, but State has the #15 strength of schedule vs #45 for VU.

The other factors all seemed to favor MSU.

It's all about perception. Vandy was supposed to be absolutely dreadful, so them getting to 6 wins and blowing out Wake makes them seem hot. We were supposed to be battling LSU, Alabama, and Arkansas as a dark horse in the West. Our 6-6 seems like something we've limped into. Perception is reality for the bowls.

I would think the Bowl Com. and merchantswould like to have an out of the area team.

Just a factor...they have got to give some love consideration to Vandy.

Personally, I prefer the Music City Bowl for obvious reasons over returning to Memphis again. However, let's say West Virginia either loses to South Florida or Saturday, or Cincinnati falls to UConn and sends Louisville to the Orange Bowl. There is a good chance that WVU could end up in the Liberty Bowl. The Belk Bowl in Charlotte has made it known that they'd like to take NC State, but I don't know that they would want to take WVU in that case, because those two teams met in the Champs Sports Bowl last year.

Also, the Liberty Bowl is on ABC on New Year's Day afternoon, which would likely give that game more national exposure. So, although the payout for the Liberty Bowl is slightly less than the MCB, would it be more beneficial to us (exposure, recruiting, etc.) to play a higher-profile team like West Virginia in the Liberty on ABC, or play a team that doesn't get nearly as much national exposure (UVA) in the Music City on Friday night?

I've struggled with this one....I'd much rather go to Nashville, but I could live with playing a bigger name like West Virginia in Memphis as opposed to a C-USA school. They'd bring a big crowd just as we would....and it would be nice to pay them back for the *** beatings we received in 2006-2007.

first off we play Memphis there quite regularly PLUS we were just in that bowl 4 years ago. I would just like a nicer venue in a new place where I know we will play some ACC school. Also, Vandy would get a new venue and they just played in the MCB 3 years ago so to me its a win, win for everyone if we got the MCB and Vandy gets the Liberty against hopefully a good Big East opponent. Why would the Vandy team want to stay in town for their bowl game anyway?
