Do the Lakers repeat?

The only reason Cleveland racked up the record they did was playing in the sorry Eastern conference. I said that back when the Cavs were sweeping Detroit and Atlanta. There are about 5 teams in the West that Cleveland couldn't get past. If Garnett comes back healthy they won't even get past Boston....with or without Shaq.
Kobe DID need shaq. Now he needs Pau Gasol, Lamar Odom, Andrew Bynum, Ariza, and Fisher. This team should have been better, but thats right all Kobe can do is shoot, draw fouls, and make stupid faces. I'll tell you what, switch LeBron with Kobe and imagine what would happen to both teams. ....... Cavs would be a disaster and Lakers would go dang near undefeated. Also, those Shaq/Kobe teams? They would have sucked without Shaq and Robert Horry who was more clutch than kobe in those games.
Kobe = Overratted garbage.
Kobe = Overratted garbage.
everybody needs everybody. Shaq needed Wade. Hell even MJ needed Horace Grant and Scottie Pippen. So, I agree with you that he needs other players. In his mind though, he's proven a point and he'll act that way next year. Also, are we talking about the same Lebron who walked off the court like a ***** after losing? That's a real man right there. And before you try to speculate, no I don't think Lebron is half the headcase Kobe is, but he's still got a huge ego.
Finally, anybody that scores 81 points in a single game isn't overrated. Kobe is a top 5 all time SG, the stats are there to prove it, and no, he will never be better than MJ.

what?
You mean the same Shaq that's pushing 40 and averages at best 7 points less than his career average over the last 5 years?

I am not going to get deep into this argument, but saying Kobe is overrated is a bit much. He may be selfish, but he is most certainly in the Top 5 players in the game today. I certainly dont want to look at him on a list of NBA players given a historical perspective, but once he is done he will be one of the best to ever play the game.
"Should have been better"?? You do realize the Lakers won 80% of their games this season and won the NBA title? Take Kobe off the Lakers and they would be damn lucky to even make the playoffs in the Western Conference. However, no player wins a title by himself. Even Jordan did not win anything until they got Pippen and Grant. LeBron isn't winning one either until he gets some help.
To average 30+ points and 7+ assists in the Finals. Yeah he is overrated. And what is this "top 5 players in the NBA" stuff? It is pretty much Kobe and LeBron.........then everyone else. No other NBA player today is even in their stratosphere. As far as all time goes, Jordan of course was the best but I can't think of another 2 guard that could ever do the things Kobe can do.
I am pissed that people are trying to say "Kobe won this one" blah blah blah. He had no choice but to win with the talent they had around him.
It's easy to average 30 pts and 7 assists over a 5 game stretch (especially when you are on a team with highly skilled players). Lebron did it for an ENTIRE SEASON. Lebron averaged 38 pts 8 reb 8 assits during the series with the magic.
"I can't think of another 2 guard that could ever do the things Kobe can do." Kobe wouldn't have to do a lot of those things if he was a better facilitator. He takes all the shots. He's a glory hog. He doesn't need to play the way he does he simply CHOOSES to for selfish reasons. He's like the guy that jumps for no reason before he catchs the ball in baseball or football. I'd take Chancey Billups over Kobe. I'd take Chris Paul, D-Wade, Lebron, and Dwight Howard over Kobe. I wouldn't clean up vomit with a Kobe Bryant Jersey.
If i was his coach he would be a lock down defender with 5 shots per quarter. THATS IT. (He only shoots 50% from the field.) 12 people are ahead of him in the nba in shooting percentage at shooting guard.
[Watching Kobe highlight]: WOW LOOK AT THAT SHOT!!!! (that he shouldn't have taken).

but this morning i read this: http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=simmons/090616&sportCat=nba
and it kinda backed up everything i was saying
2008 Kobe (21 games): 30.1 pts, 5.7 reb, 5.6 ast, 3.3 TO, 22.0 FGA, 9.2 FTA, 47.9 FG%, 81 FT%, 30 3FG%, 41.1 MPG.
2009 Kobe (23 games): 30.2 pts, 5.3 reb, 5.5 ast, 2.6 TO, 23.0 FGA, 8.6 FTA, 45.7 FG%, 88 FT%, 35 3FG%, 40.9 MPG.
Ironically, "Unselfish And Finally Getting It" Kobe averaged more shots in the 2009 playoffs than "Selfish And Doesn't Get It" Kobe did in 2008 AND made less of them.

that article definitely burned everyone in this thread but you. kobe, in fact, does suck. you win.
30.7 points, 4.9 rebounds, 4.1 assists, 22.6 FGA, 8.5 FTA, .459 FG%, 82 FT%, 40 3FG%, 40.7 MPG.
Do those stats also agree with you are saying about selfish ball players who suck? I'll give you a quick hint as to who's playoff line that is. It's from the 1995-1996 season.

I just cant see that particular team making it back. The cavs will be better but still probably wont get there. The Celtics will have KG back. And I'm sure there will be a couple of other teams that mix it up and show us something surprising. 17 the Magic. the finals blew
What was i thinking! Since Kobe's greatest playoff performance briefly mirrored Jordan i have absolutly no right to be critical of Kobe. AND i never said Kobe sucked. I simply said he is being overratted by pretty much everyone. He didn't "win this one alone." He didn't "come full circle." Congratulations you won a championship without Shaq. HERES A WORLDWIDE BJ! It only took you 7 years. He was an accesory to three championships and won a fouth one alsmost a decade later in spite of himself. Oh and his grand total of 2 scoring titles is truly breath taking, surpassed by Allen Iverson among others.
He's only 8 scoring titles shy of UNNAMED PLAYER.
Not to be a total hater. I will say Kobe has had an unbelieveable career and past 2 years specifically. Playing non stop, winning a gold medal, two nba finals appaerances, an MVP, a finals MVP. I respect that.

that he has less scoring titles than Allen Iverson proves that he's selfish? Great logic.
Also, not sure where you are getting stats from, but according to ESPN.com Kobe is 8th in shooting guard FG%.
And I guess calling someone "overratted (not a word, by the way) garbage isn't techinically saying someone sucks, but it's as damn close as you can get I would think.
I guess you missed this part of the article...

I go back to a comment someone made about JR awhile back. The fact that you are the only person on the earth arguing that Kobe is overrated doesn't make you cutting edge and ahead of the curve, it makes you a moron.

So perhaps that article doesn't help your "Kobe is overrated (see, only one T)" point after all.

Damn that sounds like Kobe Bryant to me.... The only time he takes more than 20 -25 shots is when his team isn't hitting their shots.
Oh and all of those guys you named that you would take over Kobe...uh...they all were sitting at home while Kobe was shining his 4th ring.

My point for bringing up Iverson is that the best part of Kobe's game is that he is a "scorer" but he has very few scoring titles. Hmmm.
Players in there prime who would you take:
Kobe or Jordan
Kobe or Magic
Kobe or Bird
Kobe or Shaq
Kobe or Wilt
Do you see what I'm getting at?
I wouldn't take him over ANY of these guys. Everyone is comparing Kobe to Jordan when they don't belong in the same breath. Kobe's on the All-Time "B" Team at best.
Oh and correcting people's spelling as a means of making you look comparably smarter doesn't enhance your argument. Neither does calling people a moron. I hit spellchecker just for you this time. : )
(PS: you forgot to close your quotation)

Being on the "B" team in NBA history still puts you as one of the top 10 players in history. The guys you all listed are among the 10 best. So picking them over Kobe isn't like picking Dave Cowens or James Worthy over him. Not to mention Jordan is the only shooting guard you listed. Obviously I wouldn't take Kobe at forward or center. Why don't you list 4 shooting guards you would take over him?
Did you use an emoticon? ***.
Edited to add, you can't have it both ways. Either you agree with the article and you agree Kobe is one of the 10 best players of all time, or the article doesn't prove your point at all. Which is it?

1. Jordan - though I despise hate and loathe him.
2. West
3. Maravich because I loved him as a kid but yes, Kobe is better
I would take the first two over Kobe. I would take Maravich but that's just because I like him more
There's not another one. Drexler, Reggie Miller, Gervin, Dumars.......none of them are as good as Kobe.
