I think that if anyone believes a true MSU fan is satisfied with 5-7, they're an idiot. Beating OM is great, but it never has and never will make our season, at least not for me. The great satisfaction we feel tonight over this one is mainly because of what happened last year. But if we don't parlay this into a successful "season" next year, then none of it matters.</p>

But I definitely think they will struggle mightily next season. 6-7 wins struggle... Nutt is going to win 6... it just happens that way for some reason

And that will be fine with me. I'm expecting 6 or 7 next year at most. Missing out on a bowl game will definitely be a possibility next year. We'll be young. It's going to be a learning experience year for us. If our young guys step up and get us more than 6 or 7 wins next year, look out for the following years.

Today was just an early start on it. Losing McCluster and Hodge is going to really hurt their offense, those two combined for 241 yards today (not to mention I think they lose a few offensive linemen too). On the other hand, we should be improved at pretty much every position on the field except for RB, and I think we'll get adequate play from that position as well.

Throughout today's game, the Ole Miss Rebels failed in epic proportions... I'm just hoping that you don't embarrass the SEC in your pathetic bowl game, wherever it may be... You need to face reality at some point in your delusional Rebel lives...

in the fact that:

1. We have a competent coach who knows what he's doing.

2. We have a lot of guys coming back.

3. We are will likely improve.

4. We showed up in pretty much every game this year. How many years could you say that?

So next year is already in wait for next year (2 years from now) mode. Nice.

Oh it would be great to hang 50 on the Rebels in VHS.

they should be at worst 3-1 in the nonconference, with Fresno being the most likely upset, but it's still highly unlikely. So if they go through that 4-0, they get Vandy and Kentucky at home, should be no worse than a split, and then it's just one more win to a bowl.

Do you ever really see Houston Nutt presiding over a 3 win team? They will always be near the 6 win mark at worst with him there.

They'll be in the 6-8 win range most years with the occasional 9-10 win season and the occasional 4-5 win season. If they thought they were going up a level by hiring Nutt then they were idiots. He is a good coach that will win consistently, but he isn't good enough to get them to a better position. Yesterday's game was classic Houston Nutt.

Ole Miss officials just announced after the eggbowl beatdown that Vaught Hemingway stadium would be changing from grass turf to cardboard. When asked why this change, one official said, "it's obvious that Ole Miss football looks better on paper".

out of our offensive line and replace some experienced players in the secondary. The latter doesn't bother me as much, as Nix has always seemed to have those positions playing well everywhere he has been. But the offensive line will be an issue that will dictate whether we are a 6 win team or a 9 win team.

OM has the ability to win as many, or more, next season as this one. As you pointed out we could easily sweep our OOC, and we will likely be solid favorites in our home games against Vandy and UK (who loses a ton) and slightly favored to win the other two- AU and MSU. We are going to have a puncher's chance against Ark (who may have one real good season next year) and LSU, who we always play well. I think Nutt probably wins one of these but loses one of the other games he shouldn't. Tennessee won't scare anyone until they get consistent QB play and shore up their exposed defense.

The only certain loss is Alabama. OM will probably lose as many as 4 of the other games, but it wouldn't shock me if the offense gells to lose as few as 1-2 of them. I think we could sleepwalk to 6-6.

...you are already saying you will be favored aGAINst MSU next year?

Let me bring you back to earth. You won't beat LSU next year. You don't have a chance in hell of beating Arkansas next year unless Mallet leaves early. Don't chalk Vandy as a win because you boys always struggle with Vandy. Kentucky may lose a ton, but so do you, and there's not much difference between your programs right now, anyway. Your traditionally ridiculous schedule will get you some wins, but if you do sleepwalk as you say, you'd better not count on six.

Ole Miss will be favored against MSU next year in Oxford. Perhaps substantially, depending on how well you play in your other games.

If the 06 OM team could go to OT against LSU, then we always have a chance against them. Additionally, we return 6 of our front 7 on a defense that held them to 200 yards of total offense. We have a great chance to beat LSU again.

I agree with you about Arkansas, which is why I noted it. We won't matchup well against a great passing team, but it is still Nutt against his old team. A puncher's chance.

I feel really good about us taking care of Vandy and UK, but you never know. It's as likely to lose to them as it is to pick up another win against UT. The point remains, we only need to go .500 in conference in order to likely get to 8-4 and yet another NYD bowl game.

MSU hasn't beaten OM in Oxford in over a decade and won't have the revenge factor next season. In fact, you'll be facing it. You lose your best players on both sides of the ball and didn't exactly destroy us despite getting 5 Ole Miss turnovers, 3 of which directly gave you 21 points.

I do think MSU is improving, but I don't think you'll be any better than the 9th or 10th best SEC program next year. I think 6-6 will be your likely ceiling in 10, and you certainly have a shot of another losing season.

State basically ran it down your throat with ease. We fumbled at the one going in for a TD, and we took two knees at the five at the end of the game. We could've easily scored 50. This was an asswhipping. Your arrogance amuses me.

State will be a better team than Ole Miss next year. Hell, State was a better team than Ole Miss this year, obviously. The difference between the two schools is the schedule.

that got rolled for 317 rushing yards against us?

You won't win in Knoxville. UT will be better. It's ridiculously premature to automatically assume you'll be favored over us. Sorta like it was ridiculously premature to chalk up a beatdown against us like most of your fans did.

7-5 for the Rebs, maybe 6-6.

We beat the **** out of you yesterday. Are you freaking insane? What the hell were you watching?

Oh, and aside from Eli's team vs. lame duck Jackie, you haven't beaten us in Starkville since 1997, another Jackie screw-up.

Although we lose Dixon, the other players that participated in the beatdown will all be back. As will your ****** overrated QB.

yes, you fumbled. You also got a pick 6 on the next drive, so there that one goes. The other 4 OM turnovers also contributed greatly to the scoreboard. Perhaps you don't realize how inept you were at stopping our offense as well (OM averaged 7 yards a play almost yesterday, very rarely do you lose when you do that, only punted once the entire game, etc), the turnovers were the defense.

Your offense- particularly the running game- played inspired football. Dixon and Relf (who played almost perfect) were motivated individuals. Our defense didn't match their intensity and where pushed around, no question. You made big, opportune plays in very timely moments. You pulled a big upset against your rival, but it's called upset for a reason.

You were not as good as OM this season, as common scores against Arkansas, LSU, Alabama, Vandy, Auburn demonstrate. That is the reason you are staying at home while OM is going to a NYD bowl game. A season is a body of work, this is the same message board that (rightly so) ridiculed OM making the "Ole Miss 31, National Champs 30" bumper stickers last year. The exact same issue is at work here. You lose your best defensive player, your best offensive player of all-time, and 6 other starters. You play in a place where you haven't won in over a decade and have lost by an average of 21 points a game. You won't have the revenge motivation, in fact you'll be facing it.

Yes, you will be the underdog. Substantially so, perhaps, if like this season you don't do much in your other 11 games.

Didn't you just post a 9-3 prediction, having MSU beat teams like Alabama, Georgia, Auburn, LSU etc? You have MSU beating like 5 teams they couldn't beat this year WITH Dixon.

MSU will be a comparable team to this year in 10, as will their record. You'll likely get one '10 upset like 09 Ole Miss, but it won't be Ole Miss.

you around to, to the tune of 6.7 yards a play. We punted once.

The turnovers were the difference, and MSU making huge plays when they needed it. A perfect game from your backup QB didn't hurt either.

Congrats on the big victory. Just don't get ahead of yourself silly.

as a strong point while the Rebels lose their only two offensive threats along with 4/5 of the offensive line is laughable.

Oh, and in response to the "you didn't exactly destroy us" quote... All I can say is that you didn't watch the game. If you had, you'd know that MSU didn't punt the ball a single time once Relf took over for good. State's inept offense put up the most points in 30 years against Ole Miss and should have had 14 more. Oh and lastly, if a ref had made the correct blatant offensive pass interference call with Shay Hodge bear-hugged our corner in the end zone, things would still be worse.

Let's be real. Ole Miss benefited this year from a ridiculously easy schedule but in reality, yesterday proved that they are no better than MSU. We'll hate losing Dixon, but you'd have to be insane to think that we're getting the worst side of the personnel losses this year when Dexter Mc single-handedly won you about 3 ballgames this year. Our two major weak spots look to improve next year with our secondary being back and a year older and Tyson f'n Lee being replaced by a Mr. Mississippi QB and Relf as a Junior(the guy that burned your asses today). This all assumes that Newton doesn't sign with us. No worries though. Get your Snead for Heisman stickers ready again for next year.

We both got raped by Alabama. If Bama hadn't stalled in the redzone, they would've beaten you by 6 or 7 TD's. We both got raped by Auburn. You made it closer in the end, but they had a huge lead on you. You beat LSU in the waning seconds, primarily due to Les Miles' stupidity. We lost to LSU by an inch. I call that fairly even. We both beat Vandy on the road easily. The only difference is Arkansas. In addition, you beat Tennessee at home, while we beat Kentucky on the road - those two teams played to a regulation draw and wound up with the same record. You played South Carolina and lost. We played #1 Florida and lost, by similar margins. You also played a ridiculous non-conference schedule of two FCS teams, Memphis and UAB. We played two ranked non-conference opponents that both might wind up winning conference championships. If you had played our schedule, you would be sitting at home.

Oh, and we beat the ever-loving **** out of you. So, I believe that makes us better. Perhaps you missed that.

you'd be bowling (maybe, no guarantee a 6-6 SEC team would make a bowl this year). The SEC differences in our schedule were Florida and SC, whom we both lost to and have no net effect on our current situations and UK and UT, of which UT proved to be the better team and which both of us beat- which also has no net effect on our current situations.

You had a very tough OOC schedule, congrats. Bet you are quite thankful for it today.
