Do we miss Calipari yet?

No. He was clearly burned out and needed the change as much as we did. Vandy shot their wad against UF and Arkansas had the better athletes. Congrats to the Hogs.

I thought Vandy played well today. Arkansas went 15-24 from 3. That may be the best outside shooting performance of a Cal team in his entire career.

I had no problem with Coach Cal leaving. I wish those last 4 years worked out and he retired here, but if you’re going to replace a HOF coach, you cannot hire a guy like Pope, especially with that kind of resume, that is not Kentucky basketball quality. It’s so damn embarrassing.

Whoa ... didn't know that. Yeah, nobody's beating that.

I love Cal. He made us feel proud again of being BBN. His time was done here and we had to move on. Mitch was the idiot to give him a lifetime contract that was unwarranted. Pope however is way below on any scale of coaching than Cal.

Almost makes you wonder if MB is not entirely in possession of all of his faculties ... seriously, how could anyone think that was a good idea?

I know its easy to bag on Pope

but two things to me

so far we don't have an Oakland, St. Pete or 9-17 year with Pope

and, until confirmed otherwise , Pope is willing and wants to improve. Cal was comfortable insulting the fans, telling the AD what he was and wasn't going to do, and making everyone mad at him from Phil Knight to Joe Craft to every SEC referee

so I would debate about being worse off. To get to the SEC title game Arkansas had to face Oklahoma and Ole Miss so I'm avoiding talking about Calipari making a comeback.
This is the absolute best post I have read on this site in a very long time. Well stated and I 100% agree with every bit of it.

2 things that are 100% fact, Cal had to go and Pope was a horrible hire. Cal destroyed almost every relationship he had with people of importance and donors. It was never going to work again and it was his fault. His arrogance and personality along with the results he was producing were too much. I for one am glad he's gone and wish he left years earlier. Barnhart knew he was retiring and wanted a safe hire to bridge the next AD so he could pick his own coach. He was sure Drew would take it and when that didn't happen he panicked. Barring something crazy, Pope has next year and maybe 1 more, if product is still the same, new AD will swing for the fences. Just my 2 cents

HELL YES WE DO!

The trouble is most of us on this board are too proud to admit we made a mistake in not giving him more of a free rein than what he had. He could do so much that a lot of us didn’t agree with but other things Mitch did not allow. He was a great coach and he had some down years at the end of his reign but hell yes we miss him. Some people in here will just never admit it.

Anybody who stans for Pope at this moment hates UK basketball excellence

You can go be a Razorback any time bud.

I’m sick to the teeth of UK “fans” that kiss their favorite coach’s ***. Last I checked this wasn’t the University of Cal or Pope.
Right on - everyone should know this is the University of Jodie Meeks!

Boy our fanbase has it all figured out.. Ran off a hall of fame coach.
I sure as hell don’t miss the bullstuff coach he was when he was here the last five years. He needed to leave here as he had pretty much quit caring about anything but draft picks. Now that he’s motivated and with the NIL he’s back to actually working and doing what he needs to do to win games. It was time for him to move on. I loved Cal when he had the desire to be the best for sure.

They won’t admit it because it simply isn’t true. I don’t miss him at all. You can stop saying we because I sure as hell am not pining for that jagoff.

We have had multiple blowouts and losses at home though, and just in two years

Don’t over complicate things . Both UK and Cal needed a reset. It has done wonders for Cal . Mitch crapped the bed with his basketball hire . Sometimes you take a step back before surging ahead.

We stepped back with Sutton and hired Pitino, we stepped back with Billy Clyde and hired Calipari. This Mark Pope experiment will probably be over about this time next year and hopefully we can make a sensible hire this time .
