No

If you want to that is fine, I just choose not to. I don't follow or tweet at any of our players either

I did once from my @requiemforadawg account as a joke and immediately regretted it. I would definitely never do it from my personal account. It is creepy as hell for me to see some 45 year old dude with two elementary aged daughters in his avi groveling over a 17 year old kid.

I only tweet @ recruits when they don't pick State...

Then I tell them to go 17 themselves***

Follow-up question: Why do you have 2 twitter accounts?

I don't tweet at them but if I notice a guy we're on tweets something positive about State and it comes across my TL, I'll RT it. Tweeting at them directly isn't for me, plus its a violation albeit 1 no one cares about.

Now I do tweet at them and tell them how much I want them at State from my account where I'm a smokin hot coed**

I'm not old, but I still think it's creepy when people my age do it. It's one thing to see them around campus and say hi but social media is kind of desperate. Favorite or retweeting is acceptable though. When one tweets about liking MSU I'll usually favorite it when it pops up on my feed. I don't follow any. I leave it up to the beats and such to make it available to me.

i dont tweet, but if i did, i wouldnt tweet @ recruits. recruits dont want old white guys trying to act cool to them. thats just lame. unless you are powerful, know the recruit personally, have some street cred, or are female and are a 7 or better, its probably not a good idea to tweet at these guys. sometimes, saying nothing is the best approach. if a guy chooses one school over state because we didnt stroke his ego on twitter, he probably wouldnt fit in well anyway.

No. I don't follow any recruits either

I find something inherently creepy about a dude in his mid-thirties tweeting to 17 year olds.

I don't follow any of them, recruits or current athletes. Like others have said its disturbing for grown men to hero worship kids. I stick w/ athletic dept staff, coaches and writers (exemptions for Stevens, Short and Locke) etc.

Heck no, and I don't follow or friend current players either. I have a private Mississippi State list on Twitter and I only add fairly active and entertaining alumni, staff and coaches to that list. I did add a few of the baseball players who signed MLB contracts to that list also. That is all I do.

I think getting into the recruiting mess is a bit childish.

Don't even follow them much less tweet at them.

It is almost as creepy as the number of state fans this past year who really thought they were a part of the recruiting process via online actions. Sad.

Won't tweet any recruits, but I will follow the big time ones (i.e. Elijah staley) until he goes elsewhere he's a dawg. So it's really no different than me following LDP in my mind.

Disagree a bit Dehr. Although it isn't and should never be a deciding factor, it matters. Like it or not social media is now a part of recruiting. To me, that doesn't mean to turn into a creepy stalker (tweeting at recruits) but if a recruit tweets #HailState and it got a big number of RT's, that makes a point to the recruit. ******** or not, like it or not, it does matter to varrying degrees

I follow a few and retweet or "favorite" a tweet if its positive message about MSU. I will never tweet at a recruit though. That's where I draw the line.
I will contend that retweeting a recruit's message is no different than cheering for him a high school football game. It's just a way to show appreciation of what they are saying or doing. I don't see anything wrong with that. If you do, you are probably over-thinking the whole the deal.

I agree atotal360

That's a great way to put it. RT a recruits tweet= cheering for them at a game

If Paul Jones or Steve Robertson retweet a recruit's tweet, I occasionally oblige (like three times in the past year). However, I'll start to look for more opportunities for this because I really feel like it makes a difference to the kid. They love the attention. I will congratulate a kid for signing on signing day or for committing if I see the tweet by one of the MSU pay-site guys. I'll never follow a recruit, but I will follow our players.

If I'm obtuse, then explain to me why you need a twitter handle for you sports message board persona and your personal life? When do you need to tweet as Requiem for a Dawg and not yourself?

I'm wondering this too. I see C34 on twitter every now and again and I can only think his life must be pathetic. He literally lives through a message board and twitter handle.
