It was Kraft trying to show he had the bigger d!ck. He hasn’t exactly proven that he’s the all world AD he thinks he is, so we’ll see how it ends up.The implied word in that phrase was it wasn’t “solely” a three-game decision. The three losses were of course the final deciding factor but by no means were they the entire scope of what led to the decision.
To who?No, they didn’t. Firing Franklin at this time served no purpose whatsoever. The only thing it did was make PSU look bad.
Saban and Franklin share an agent, and the interview was a PR move for Franklin.Saban’s comments remind of how Tom Izzo seemingly always praises the litany of PSU hoops coaches after he routinely has beaten them by whatever score he wanted. It’s so patronizing and condescending. I wonder if Saban, or Izzo for that matter, would speak so glowingly about a PSU coach if said coach routinely beat their Bama or MSU teams. It’s easy to like another coach when that coach isn’t a serious threat to you.
Someone should’ve asked Saban how long he would have lasted at Bama with a 4-21 record vs top ten opponents
Not a single potential coach will have this move impact their decisions about Penn State.Potential coaches and recruits.
Much, much better; but fans had turned the environment toxic so Kraft had little choice. It is unsustainable, even if James delivered 10 and 2 seasons, to bring in recruits and donors and have the fans behave like they did.It could have been handled better.
To who?
to whom!!!! obj. case,please!!!To who?
The bargain the fanbase accepted was lose to the 1 or 2 best teams on the schedule. In return, beat everyone else.Much, much better; but fans had turned the environment toxic so Kraft had little choice. It is unsustainable, even if James delivered 10 and 2 seasons, to bring in recruits and donors and have the fans behave like they did.
So the press saying that is Franklin threatening to go to USC?You must have not followed the team prior to his current contract.

According to the press, Franklin was going to every job that came around. So the press saying that is Franklin threatening to go to USC?
Please put link in your next post thst shows the words coming out of Franklin’s mouth saying if PSU doesn’t give me what I am going to USC.
He played Sandy like a fiddle.According to the press, Franklin was going to every job that came around.
No! He had 4 opportunities in the last season and a half to stop the “Big Game James” narrative! If he even goes even 1-3 against Oregon, Ohio State or Notre Dame he is still here. He was well compensated, given plenty of resources and support and just couldn’t get over the hump. He lost the team this year and if reports are true tried to backdoor his boss. This isn’t the 70’s, 80’s or 90’s. Coaching salaries have exploded. I’m a capitalist so that is fine but if you are going to command that type of $ you have to take the good with the bad! He wasn’t being paid 7-8 million a year to go 1-10 against Ohio State. A diminished Joe Paterno went 7-13 against them in the Big Ten. Not great but at least he beat them once every three years.
Paterno was 9-13 all time vs OSU it would have taken franklin 100 year to get as many wins as Paterno vs OSU with his 1-10 pace. No! Dude come on. I guess he was linked to that job by everyone everywhere in every report about it because he and his agent didn’t want it to be leveraged for the huge 10 year contract he got fromPSU.So the press saying that is Franklin threatening to go to USC?

Well the President did not fire his A$$ last Sunday it was Kraft.Whoa. Who’s the boss? Last I knew CJF answered to the president and not the AD AD was there to get his coffee in the morning make sure the copy machine wasn’t out of paper
No it’s not. Going 0-6 or 1-5 and getting blown out in all the games is a train wreck. Let’s try to keep it in perspective.
Yes, slow, they were 3-0 and ranked #3. Then lost three…that’s slow, not a disaster. Starting off 0-6 would have been as bad as some are making it out to be.
They would not have beat Iowa under Franklin. So biggest under performance in PSU history imo. I’d say a disaster.Slow. LOL
He was. We still would have lost if Franklin was there last night. Dare I say we did better and were more free to execute without him. It’s like being out in the middle of a lake in a tow boat, deciding you need new oars so you throw the ones you have into the water. Not a smart move.
Ummm they lost to UCLA and NW. That is most definitely a disaster.Yes, slow, they were 3-0 and ranked #3. Then lost three…that’s slow, not a disaster. Starting off 0-6 would have been as bad as some are making it out to be.
Krafty Kraft listened to the only fans that matter.....the paying customers.Much, much better; but fans had turned the environment toxic so Kraft had little choice.
Pure speculation. He was. We still would have lost if Franklin was there last night. Dare I say we did better and were more free to execute without him.
Both teams look pretty good at this point, so no, it’s not.Ummm they lost to UCLA and NW. That is most definitely a disaster.
All these transactions are done by third parties so that the coach can maintain deniability. Urban Meyer explained how it works on the latest Fox CFB podcast. In this example Jimmy Sexton was floating Franklin's name to USC and USC was showing interest via a third party contact. Then behind the scenes Sexton is able to pressure Barbour into another contract extension for Franklin. James can deny that he ever spoke to USCAccording to the press, Franklin was going to every job that came around.
That doesn’t mean Franklin was ever going to USC or anywhere else. All these transactions are done by third parties so that the coach can maintain deniability. Fans or the big donor oligarchs?Much, much better; but fans had turned the environment toxic so Kraft had little choice. It is unsustainable, even if James delivered 10 and 2 seasons, to bring in recruits and donors and have the fans behave like they did.
Except when the captain of the rowboat convinced you he had a 100hp outboard on the rowboat and you believed it.It’s like being out in the middle of a lake in a row boat, deciding you need new oars so you throw the ones you have into the water. Not a smart move.
He is a good coach but is 63. Never cared for his personality but he has won at something like 6 different stops over the years.Brian Kelly now rumored to be on the hot seat at lsu…he’s a New England dude totally out of place in Dixie…I can see him fitting nicely at psu
Maybe penn state and lsu can trade…circumvent buyouts...a head coaches transfer portal
That's really not the point. We'll never know if he was going elsewhere because PSU gave in to everything he ever demandedThat doesn’t mean Franklin was ever going to USC or anywhere else.

Hell no!!! It wasn't just the losses, it's how bad we looked while losing. Even the first 3 games we won we looked bad doing it.That his termination was unfair?
BGJ served 12 years in the role and had a lot of success?
