Do you agree with Franklin and Saban?

Someone should’ve asked Saban how long he would have lasted at Bama with a 4-21 record vs top ten opponents

This ^^^^. That absolutely should have been directed at Saban after he made the comments. Imagine Bama fans and their AD if their coach lost just about every year to LSU, Tennessee, and Auburn. They’d be gone in a heartbeat, (much less 12 years later), and Saban knows it.

I can speak only for myself. It got to the point 6 or 7 years ago where I wanted him to just leave if he was going to let himself constantly be rumored to be doing so. I’m guessing if I looked back to that time on this board, I’d find many others saying the same.

Like I said earlier in this thread, it’s easy to like and support someone who’s no threat to upset the apple cart. That’s why I’m sure that Day and Lanning and probably Cignetti were very sorry to see Franklin depart.

So if you were coming off your best year ever as an employee, started the new year off slow and got fired, you would think that was fair?
Yes - already happened to me recently - life is tough and he was well compensated. I moved on and had successes elsewhere and had no hard feeling because it happens all the time to a lot of people who don’t walk away with $50M. Regardless of what he did last year he has shown year over year he can’t win the big one and he hasn’t including last year - how many participation trophies do you want?

My guess is we’re not even going to get any participation trophies for the next 5 or 6 years, maybe more. Those “participation trophies” are going to start looking pretty good soon.

I still think that unless his contract prevented it he should have been transferred to the janitorial staff. How many toilets would he have to clean before he quit. No buyout to pay. I'm only half joking.

It’s like being out in the middle of a lake in a row boat, deciding you need new oars so you throw the ones you have into the water. Not a smart move.
Actually it’s more like a foolish captain who is set adrift by his crew while he continues foolishly searching for the northwest passage. The crew was better off by themselves than with a captain who couldn’t coach a big game to save his life. I am going to call Franklin “Captain Hudson” from here on out.

I wish my boss would treat me that “unfairly” with that type of buy out. He was given ever chance to get us over the hump and failed every time and his agent which he would have had to agree with constantly floated other jobs out there to leverage PSU and Saban would have been gone from ‘Bama if he had Franklins record against the big boys of the SEC.
Someone should have said to Saban “ if Georgia beat your *** every year, and you went 3-7 against LSU and Auburn over the course of a decade - they would’ve run your *** out of Tuscaloosa”

Except when the captain of the rowboat convinced you he had a 100hp outboard on the rowboat and you believed it.
Bad example…because they threw the oars out after they knew they didn’t have an outboard.

Well, if that happens, then the new coach will have failed and we’ll be looking for a new coach. PSU even would’ve made rinky dink bowl games in 2012 and 2013 under O’Brien during the sanction years, and did make them under Franklin in 2014 and 2015.

And there’s no guarantee the new coach will do any better than the old new coach. Could be Nebraska 2.0.

That doesn’t mean Franklin was ever going to USC or anywhere else.
It really bothered me that he did that stuff. I’m a PSU grad. He isn‘t. It felt disrespectful the way he let it simmer each time he was mentioned for other jobs. I got past it and supported him, but I never forgot it. It’s his way of doing business. He had the power to do it and he did. But people remember it. He played hard ball. This year he was on the receiving end.

I respect your view on many things, but we were put on sanctions in 2012 and won the Big 10 in 2016. No portal. No NIL. It’s possible to turn things around faster now.

Bill O'Brien and his 53 player NFL approach to dealing with adversity. BOB saved PSU football.

BGJ + Fumi milked PSU Football Inc like the money teet is was.

PSU is currently cash flow deficient.....they need to hire accordingly.

No it’s not. Going 0-6 or 1-5 and getting blown out in all the games is a train wreck. Let’s try to keep it in perspective.
The three teams we beat (unimpressively) could combine their roster and still not have a team 1/3 of PSU’s.

Saban’s comments remind of how Tom Izzo seemingly always praises the litany of PSU hoops coaches after he routinely has beaten them by whatever score he wanted. It’s so patronizing and condescending. I wonder if Saban, or Izzo for that matter, would speak so glowingly about a PSU coach if said coach routinely beat their Bama or MSU teams. It’s easy to like another coach when that coach isn’t a serious threat to you.

Lost whatever respect I had left for Saban after his patronizing BS.

That his termination was unfair?

BGJ served 12 years in the role and had a lot of success?
I'm interested to hear the argument in favor of, "It was unfair."

Here are the facts:

-awful record in P4 football vs ranked opponents
-1-9 vs OSU
-3-7 vs Michigan
-publicly went all-in on 2025
-highest coaching payroll in all of college football
-gave up 42 points and lost to winless, coach-less UCLA
-lost to crappy Northwestern

I'm sorry. I do not see the "this is unfair" argument.

Again, this blow could've been absorbed if Franklin had SOMETIMES beaten good opponents. But you can't NEVER beat good opponents, and then shout, "This is unfair!"

I was thinking yesterday about how much of the goodwill a coach like Franklin would normally have been afforded was never given him by the fanbase because he spent so many years threatening to leave for USC.
Never did that either.
