...and as many as 5 wide at times. So, the answer to your question is yes, the young turks will get a lot of time. I see Brandon McRae, Dezmond Robinson, Leon Berry getting initial starts, and gradually Bumphis, Smith and Sanders being worked in.

I think Bumphis and Maurice Langston will play right away along with McRae, Delmon Robinson and the secret weapon Arceto Clark. I could see the others redshirting .

we'll have alot of 3WR, 1 TE sets. You have to remember, we will rarely have two backs in the backfield at one time all year, if at all.</p>

Also, i expect us to have at least 8 WR's ready to play every Saturday. Look for only a couple of WR's to redshirt</p>

...First, for all those freaking out over "the lack of quality OL"...

Spread offense advantages:

They (Spread offensive plays) create one on one match ups.
They allow you to take advantage of the speed your team has.
They limit the defense by formation.
They reduce blitzing.
They reduce the number of blocks that need to be made.
They reduce the amount of time that blocks have to be held.
</a><a href="http://www.bign2football.com/xs1.htm">http://www.bign2football.com/xs1.htm
As far as WR's, 3 is the rule of thumb:

</p> <table width="100%" align="left" border="1"> <tbody> <tr> <td class="smallplain" bgcolor="#E1E1E1">Style: Balanced offense, uses a base personnel grouping of 3 receivers, 1 runningback, and 1 tight end. The TE (Y) lines up in the backfield as a FB if needed, and also as an H-back type player, but formations can be modified to make use of a true FB. Running out of the singleback relies on the spread formations and some inside pulling by the offensive line. Dive plays, blasts, and inside counters make up most of the running game. The ideal back is good all-around, not leaning towards any specific type of player. The Z and H (slot) receivers handle most of the motion and are used sometimes as lead blockers. Passing is fairly deep, using a wide variety of routes.</td> </tr> <tr> <td class="smallplain" bgcolor="#F0F0F0"> <div align="center"> http://www.football-freaks.com/coach/pb/spread.htm </div> </td> </tr> </tbody> </table>

</a><a href="http://www.football-freaks.com/coach/pb/spread.htm">http://www.football-freaks.com/coach/pb/spread.htm

Dixon being a solid pass catcher will allow Mullen to add a few wrinkles to his version of the Spread.

Barring injury, Bumphis will see the field early and often.

Look at some Percy Harvin breakaway TD's in which he ran straight up the gut. UF up a hat on everybody except the safety who didn't have a chance against Harvin in open space. I suppose those plays might not totally fail on a blocking mistake, but I don't think you break many big ones without great blocking.

I'll give ya that they didn't have to hold blocks for long, but that was because Harvin was gone in a flash.

... Mullen has sixteen OL to work with.

If he can't coach up four out of that sixteen that can block in the simplistic, dumbed down Spread scheme, he should be fired 30 minutes after the 2009 Egg Bowl.

Ponder that when you are soaking in your scented bubble bath, honey bunny.

but he is correct. Our OL will be better due to 3 things:

1. Experience- we have alot of young guys. Another year of development will naturally make them better.
2. Better coaching- there is no doubt in my mind they are going to receive better coaching than what they have received the last few years
3. Better scheme- our OL's under Crooms have faced a loaded box play after play after play. That wont be the case anymore. We will win our share of plays in the trenches and have many more positive gains due to scheme. Also, blocking in the Spread is easier than blocking in the I formation. You have to push people around in the I and create holes, The Spread is more angle blocking as well as leaving certain DL unblocked to read off of on certain plays.

There is no doubt our OL will be better in 2009

stronger and in bettuh shape. I think the work ethic of the previous coach rubbed off.
