Do you feel that your passion for Kentucky basketball interferes with your religion?

I was watching The Sixth Man and it got me to thinking. I know I read this website more than I read my Bible. I will stay home to watch a game if it is on Sunday even if it's an exhibition. I know what the Ten Commandments say about having a false idol.

hey now, its the other way around. The only possible scenario is that religion gets in the way of UK basketball. Ask the good Lord, UK would have 100 titles by now but those pesky sunday's occasionally get in the way

I don't really go to church anymore, but I'd say if you are actually a legit Christian that does and practices what you preach that surely a game would not be a priority over that. And since I am not really a practice what you preach Christian I can judge ;)

This is a basketball forum and this thread looks like it may turn into people arguing over religion and politics so I am going to let a mod know and let them decide what to do with it.

To be serious for a minute, the 10 commandments false idol is common sense. Means no gods before him. Means dont call the UK mascot your god and bow to him, pray to him etc. Loving UK basketball is the same as loving your wife which the bible is ok with.

and to be honest, its a little strange that we are supposed to believe he went from no god before me to worship my son.... im just saying.

I just want a perspective from other Kentucky basketball Christian fans. Even if there are only a few who post I will gain a new understanding.

Re

Religion is very quanifiable. Are you trying to argue that religion doesn't exist?
What? Don't be intentionally dense. It's fairly clear my point was the doctrine theists follow has been proven to be incorrect and not "how **** went down" so to speak.

Well, the Earth isn't 6,000 years old, and if the Bible is the immutable word of god and god is infallible, that's a pretty large error, and I didn't even have to leave the first paragraph of Genesis.

So the first paragraph of Genesis says that the earth is 6000 years old? I just reviewed the first chapter and I don't see anything there about 6000 years. Sounds to me like you are inserting something that is not there.

Tracing the ages of the characters described in the early books of the bible, starting with Adam and Eve, implies that the Earth is right around 6,000 years old. Basic creationism knowledge.

Calling the mods is such a half-measure. I'm calling the police.

A friend of mine played OL for Univ. of Tennessee back in the early 80's. In preparation for the Citrus Bowl, Johnny Majors scheduled a practice on a Sunday. Reggie White and several others told Majors that practicing on Sunday went against their religion and they were going to miss the Sunday practice. Majors mentioned to them that there would be a number of NFL scouts in attendance and, from what he knew, most NFL games were on Sundays.

White and the rest of the players all showed up for that practice.

If Ky plays a bball game at 11:00 on a Sunday morning, I'll just catch the score after church and milling around with my church friends for a while. If Ky was playing Football on a Sunday morning, I'd find some church that had services on Saturday night so I wouldn't miss the game.

Being agnostic I can quite honestly answer that question with a resounding "NO".

I haven't skipped Mass to watch a game, but I can choose to go to Mass at a different time than normal. Last year during the Final 4 I did decide that there were 3 Easter Masses and 1 Final 4 game so I could watch the game and to to another Mass. In a way, it did interfere. I was told that it was the worst attended Easter Vigil Mass our parish has seen in forever so I think a lot of people made the same decision I made.
